:talon: The guy i bought the car off of rewired the fuel pump so it would push more fuel...and now it is running UNBELIEVABLY rich. you can smell the fuel dumping into the exaust. can i rewire it back to stock?:talon: oh by the way its a 91 fwd tsi.

Its also overheating...its burning coolant, and leaking oil from the headgasket, i think thats the reason its overheating. the oil leak is minor but u can see where the oil and coolant is on the block. and u can see grey smoke coming out the back because of the excess fuel dumping...i'm getting the head gasket fixed soon but until then im driving it around town only and keeping fluids up.then after that i am getting a SAFC and A/F Gauge. we hooked my buddies A/F guage up to check richness.:talon:

The fuel pump isnt going to cause the car to run rich.. remember you still have a fuel pressure regulator on the rail, and it isnt adjustable if stock, you will flow the same ammount of fuel weither rewired or not.. if you have a head gasket leaking, fix that and then worry about the mixture..

As the others hinted at, the fuel pump rewire does not cause the fuel pump to "push more fuel". The purpose of the fuel pump rewire is to eliminate the voltage drop to the fuel pump at high RPMs.

The only fuel pump mod that "pushes more fuel" would be the installation of an aftermarket fuel pump.

Running rich can be caused by many things, but not the fuel pump/rewire - how do you know you're running rich? Are you fouling plugs?

Or could you be more specific on the color of the smoke. Grey sounds like fuel and coolant perhaps.

Is it more black or blue? That will give some indication towards running rich.

And that A/F gauge you hooked up isn't really telling you anything, unless its a wideband. So check the plugs I would say.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to your posts,my internet connection died at my house and now im using my workplace's connection.haha....but the smoke is moreof a dark grey it is deffinately not blue.:talon:
