I was browsing through the local auto parts store yesterday when I stumbled across this thing. FRAM SureDrain Oil Plug Replacement Kit, claims to make oil changing mess/spills a thing of the past. Since I was due for a change soon anyway, I eagerly picked one up. Well, today I went to do the oil change I found out that the thread size is off. I made sure the part # was right, and sure enough it was. ('SD1' as according to FRAM's parts catalog and online database). I was just wondering if anyone has had the same issues? I have a '99 GSX, 2.0L 4G63. According to their specs it SHOULD work, but the thread size is off by just a hair. This is a really neat little inexpensive gadget to make oil changing a lot cleaner and hassle-free, just wish it would fit.

I just downloaded the .pdf file of the guide and it looks like you grabbed one for the 420a motor. I think you need SD2

Its kinda hard to tell, but usually anything under the part # category is included in it...then it looks like it changes to SD1 with the N/T eclipse. Also, all the 1g ones that use the 4g63 use SD2.

Maybe someone else reads it differently, but I think you need SD2

On a side note, let us know how that works when you get it goin. I've never heard of it before and it looks interesting. Might be worthwhile.

The SD2 is the correct size. I bought one for my car awhile ago. I personally haven't liked the SureDrain. The first two or three uses it works great, but after a while the valve inside the plug begins to leak oil not to mention I misplaced the orange drain tube. I switched back to a normal drain plug and don't regret it.

Thanks for the replies. I stopped by the store again today to do an exchange for part# SD2, but they were out of stock so I have to check back at the end of the week. As for the 1HR drain, that I don't really mind much. Usually after I yank the oil plug, I let the pan sit there and catch the drippage for a good 30-40 minutes in the garage anyway. I will pay another visit to the store Thurs/Fri and if I can get the SD2, I'll put it on and post my findings.

PS. While I was at the shop, I double checked their FRAM parts catalog book and sure enough it still says SD1 for the 4G63. I think I'll drop the company an e-mail and let 'em know about the error so other people don't have to got through this. :)
