FP2 Cams Review

Install went very smooth and they only took a couple hours to put on along with a timing belt and a 96 CAS.

Idle- is very smooth and almost like stock....at 750 you can hear a slight lump to indicate the cams are not stock but at 1000 the cams are very smooth and if you arent a real Dsm'er you would think they were stock. (to any Dsm person you can hear the tone of the exhaust is much deeper).

Part throttle driving is also equally impressive with these cams making the off boost driving smoother than stock. This was a great plus to the cam install as i was expecting a big loss on the low end but there is none at all.

WOT....watch out as these cams put on a show here. At 20psi Pre-Cam I was pushing 39.4 lbs a min on 22 degrees of timming (on my pump/race mix tune) and making around 310hp via Dsmlink. This is the log that I ran my 12.6 @ 110 Pass on. This was shifting at 6.2k with power dropping off very fast . Now after the Cams at 20psi I am Flowing 45.7lbs a min and my hp has jumped to 387 Running 10.0 A/F's and 16 Degrees of Timming.... WOW. These things pull to 7.5 like no other and I found myself hitting the rev limiter a few times in 2nd and 3rd due to it comming up so fast .

Overall I am VERY Pleased with these cams and hope to bring home my 11sec Timeslip Soon.

I second this review. We installed a set of Comp 101200s on a 91 GSX with an Evo 3 and it really made a big difference. Idle at 900 was smooth, with a slight lope only noticeable if you were familiar with the car before the cam install. If you're turned off by the lope of some of these cars in the Brian Crower cam vids (I'm not, but some people might be) then these cams are more to your liking. The sound of the engine in general changed a bit, IMO getting a bit higher pitched and racier. Not entirely to my liking as I like the deep exhaust note DSMs have but a minor change. The first driving impression was that the car went through the whole rev range much smoother, especially above 5k where before the engine felt "strained" but now seemed happy to be revving that high. The power gains were fairly easy to feel and were night and day on the logger. Running 21 psi airflow/rev would peak at around 205 before the cam install and then fall off quickly past 6000 rpm. After install it would peak and hold at 205 until nearly 7000 rpm. Airflow/rev can be used as a sort of a rough estimation of torque so going from 180 to 205 at 6800 can be counted as a big hp gain. I'd guesstimate it was a gain of around 25-30 whp at 6800 just from the way the car felt and the increase on the logger. Probably 20-25 whp peak gain on 21 psi.
