I am lookin to rebuild my motor .Im looking around for pistons to use , and from what I understand about forged pistons the silcone content of the piston makes it expand and contract which would cause piston slap during cold starts.I called up a Shop in NJ called broadway performance I spoke to John he told me they use another part number for ross pistons and he can guarentee me there will be absolutly NO PISTON SLAP WHAT SO EVER.

I was wondering any one know how he is going about this?
I was quoted 3500$ for a stock rebuild and under 5k for a forged motor. From the conversation we had over the phone he seems like he really knows what he is doing but I just cant afford that thats why im here trying to find out how I can go about this.

Thanks,
Abbas

They may be using a material that has the same expansion coefficient as the material they use on the piston rods and crankshaft. If they do that then there wouldn't be any slop bewteen them all. But without talking to him directly that is at best a guess.

How much power are you realistically going to put down? The stock 6-bolt is good for 500awhp. Several people have gone over that mark by 30whp. I have ross pistons/eagle rods in my VR4 and have no problems with piston slap. I used off the shelf ones from slowboy. You can also probably get the motor redone for cheaper than that if you look around, or you can get a used JDM one for about $1000

Piston slap is between the piston and the cylinder wall until it fully expands with the heat of the engine. Your motor would go to $hit if there was slop between the con rods and the crank. Thats why you check for bearing clearences when you build one.

you want forged WITH a hi silicon content. this makes the rate of expansion nearly identical to cast. there is a slight strength compromise, but it is insignificant. btw, there are very few places in the usa that have an in house forging facility. wiseco is one. most places buy all their blanks from alcoa, some machined, some not.

i would like to put down 300-350 and like a 75 hp shot of nitrous.
I just want to make sure my car is realiable. i know the stock motor can put down 450-500.
I would like to do 300-350 as safe as possible and a 75 shot of nox on top of that just in case i need it.

I am gonna be going to school next terms so I cant have my shit looking car take a shit on me.

I would never get a jdm motor because IMO its trash.
If I knew im gonna get rid of my car in 30-50 k miles I would beat the living shti out of it. Right now I do that any way so u get the point.

Arias racing pistons. :thumb: I use them and have never encountered piston slap. In fact what does it sound like. :p :p :p

5k what a rip off.

If you are gonna spend that much get it done by dsm pros at turbo trix.
