hey guys... quick question.
which is a better choice, a fmic or a side mount? or does it depend on how much power im trying to get out of my car?

It does depend on what your goals are in the future. You obviously would not get a 50 trim or 20g and run a SMIC because of heat soak issues, but if you are looking to stay around 300 area then you could put a supra smic in and not have to worry too much about it. It's all in what you want out the car, daily driver or race car!

i want my car to be a daily driver but i want it to be fast....i want ok times in the 1/4 i guess but i want it to be a fast daily driver

It all depends on the turbo, but a FMIC is a better upgrade, with the proper setup they can add close to 40 or so whp, the Supra or Dejon bigger SMIC adds 20 or so.

Again, it all depends on the turbo/setup.

We could probably use a little more information on what you mean by fast, but here's a very general guide to use with respect to matching street turbos and intercoolers that I go by:

T25: Stock Sidemount
14B, 16G, EVO III 16G: DejonTool, Hahn or Supra Sidemount
18G, 20G or larger: FMIC

The stock sidemount isn't as awful a piece as you might think. I run 12's on mine and while it does present a flow restriction, it still does the job. Since I have a Big 16G, I'll be upgrading to a larger sidemount and see no need for anything larger than that for street driving and occasional blasts down the 1/4 mile.

Opinions will vary on this topic, but what you choose will depend strongly on your goals as mentioned above. For the doubters, Dejon has run 12.2's on their sidemount and that's proof enough that they work well.

Good luck!

Andy

Amazing how many T25 cars with huge race core FMIC's I see on the street :) Stock SMIC can get you into the 12's with a 16g. It's also fine for all day at a road course in same car... I'd like to upgrade, but there's fitment issues with the upgrades I've already looked at. Working with a local place on a custom SMIC, need to get my car back over there for measurements one of these days :)

whats the price difference between a supra smic and a decent fmic

i would look at the diffence if you decided to upgrade to more hp on down the road even if you say you wont now it could happen so why not buy something you know you wont need to replace depending on price difference ofcoarse(kinda like buying a fuel pump that will support 1000 hp even though your only putin out 700 right now because you never know when you get the urge to go a lil faster)

afrter finding out how much the supras intercooler is i think that would be a pretty good way to go for the price if you think youll stay within its hp range for a while :thumb:

I could feel my 1g SMIC heatsoak at 22psi about 3/4 of a mile into my first lap at Gingerman the other day. An upgraded sidemount is an excellent idea for any car going to track days.

What do you guys think about the 14b with a FMIC setup on my 2g? I have the option of getting a Supra SMIC but I'd rather get an FMIC to avoid a lot of cutting. I know the procedure of installing a Supra SMIC.

Go for it. You probably won't need more than a street core (unless you have something bigger in mind for later). You might see a small increase in lag(200rpms or so) because you have to pressurize that core with a small turbo, but otherwise should be a nice upgrade. You shouldn't have to worry about heak soak EVER. I'm going to end up that way for a while until I get my upgraded turbo.
