Ok i've spent the past 3 hours looking at fmic's. I have some questions that im just not sure on and I want to be sure about what im getting before I spend money.

First of all short route piping. Is this where you have to remove one of the fans? I am a little leary about removing a fan and worrying about my car overheating. Anyone have this?

Second is the long route. Im thinking I would want to get this but it seem like it is a long way for the air to travel.

Third is what is the largest size I can get without removing my A/C and loop.

Fourth is I just dont understand why some FMIC's have the outlet at the top, some in the middle and some towards the bottom.

I've looked through the search and read quite a few threads but they just did not give me the reassurance I needed.

Thanks for your help. I just like to be sure before I spend money on something like this.

With short route pipping you don't have remove your radiator fan. That would be suicide and no one would do it. You may have to get a slimline fan or something like that but you have to have a fan there.

Thats what I thought. But one of my buddys has a one of his fans removed for his fmic. I asked him about his car over heating and he says it runs fine. Its a 1g laser. WTF

Do you still use your AC? If you dont, you can remove the ac fan ( the driver side). You should be fine with this. I ran my car with out an AC fan for a long time.

If you want the best cooling ability, you can get the dual slim line fan set up for a 1G. It is very expensive. You can also buy two 12" fans from an auto parts store. Thats what I did. It works flawlessly.

As far as intercoolers go, if you go with short piping, I believe you have to relocate your coolant overflow tank. It sits right infront of a hole that you need to run the piping through.

As far as buying an intercooler, bigger doesnt always mean better. I have a Spearco FMIC that is 18x6x3.5. The website claims that it supports 760 horse. I would make sure that any intercooler you get a core that is at least 3" thick. Good luck!:thumb:

I took out the fan for the A/C when i put my FMIC in and i havent had any overheating issues. heres a link to some good info about intercoolers.

Yes I still run my a/c and I would like to keep it. As far as a core Im pretty well set on getting a Johnny Race car core.

I have an AGP Front Mount w/ short route piping and there is no need to change the fans or radiator. I already had flex-a-lite fans and a fluidyne, but the pipes don't even come close to the fans. The only main things to worry about are, you need to relocate the overflow bottle (I just moved it to where the stock sidemount was located). Also, you need to cut a hole right next to the radiator so the short route piping can hook into the throttle body. Its a great kit with powder coated pipes and a huge core. The foglights also had to be removed. I would deffinately check out the AGP intercooler kit.

How much narrower is your set up than stock? My foglights are already gone so I dont have to worry about that. I had a offer of a 24x12x3 core never used shipped to my house for $200 so Im gonna look into that as well. As far as the overflow bottle goes how does it stay in place? If im not mistaken they kind of slide/lock into place. Thanks.

Im not quit sure of the dimensions of the core, but its HUGE. Fills the whole front bumper and then some. Its so big, minor trimming of the front bumper is required. Go to http://www.agpturbo.com/product.php?productid=16204&cat=260&page=1 for more information. As for the overflow bottle, the kit comes with it, and I just used an old bracket from my injen intake (since I replaced it) and an old nut from the stock side mount intercooler and bolted in to the stock location of where the sidemount was. Then I ran a longer hose (about a foot longer) for the coolant down to it. No real problem. I see that your thinking about making a Do It Yourself intercooler. If you know how to bend and make pipes, then go that route since its a lot cheaper. The AGP kit costs me about $1200 shipped with the powdercoating, and GM MAFT in UIP.

Yeah I dont want to spend that much money. If I had it I would, but im going to have my pipes bent by a friend of mine that works in a exhaust shop. Thanks for the help.
