I am having a problem with my car. 1990 eagle talon tsi. As i try to turn it on and press on the clutch pedal it sounds like a knock noise coming from the #4 cylinder but i dropped the oil pan to see if i had spun bearings or something but everything seemed to be fine. So the next thing is what makes me wonder. Could the flywheel come loose and start to do a sound similar to a knock.. it doesnt continue to make the noise if I start to step on the throttle. The two things are that I notice is that it doesn't hold idle and I have to press the clutch in order to maintain it on. I read a little and searched on the forum I didnt place thread locker on the bolts. torque on them i can't remember to be honest. any help will be appreciated

yeah they all checked out great... its a engine barely built. bored 20 over with ross pistons and manley rods on a compression ratio of 8.5:1

when i first installed it and started it for the first time no noises or anything. i havent even had time to break in the engine. LOL i have had the car on to see if everything was working on normal opperating temperature. It was fine but the next morning this happens im like dang!!

what did you torque the flywheel bolts to? I also use red loctite everytime I have to change out a flywheel.

alright and to take the tranny out. Should i take the engine out with the transmission or is there an easier way to take the transmission out by itself? the easier the better!!!

Problem solved this is what the flywheel bolts looked like:

Is that a mirror, oh wait thats the flywheel, man while you got it apart resurface that SOB. Otherwise get an aftermarket one and give it to your daughter as a mirror.
Worst come to worst and can't afford to break the bank use some steel wool/ scotch brite on that flywheel and clean it off with some simple green when completed.

But yes, 100ft/lbs with red lock-tite. Don't forget a minimal amount of grease on the inside of the TOB, input shaft collar and disc spline.

So I torqued them and placed locktite on the bolts .I also put the engine and tranny back on the car.. put all the wiring on, battery and started right up!!! All i need to do is halfshafts, transfer case, wheels, minor stuff! And now hopefully i can "break-in" the engine. thanks for your guys' help i appreciate it... No more noises in my 90 talon for now!!!
