flywheel in backwards?

Couldnt really find anything like this. I did a swap on my 1g. Engine runs GEAT! Only thing that is bad is that the starter sometimes doesnt catch the flywheel sometimes.

Also, I can warm up the car and everything np, but when I push down the clutch pedal, the engine RPM goes down. The more I push it down, the more the RPMs drop until it dies or stalls out.

I checked by the inspection plate/cover, and saw the flywheel was sparking against the driver side. It was scraping by the flat edge, not the teeth.

Does this Mean I put it in backwards? I will link a video of where I forgot to plug in the MPI fuse back, but this kinda shows the starter problem at least. I know for sure they are related, but dont know what would happen if I DID put it in backwards.

I couldnt get good lighting, so I couldnt get a video of the sparks. But to put it simply its abovve the teeth on the flat surface. Thanks guys ! I tried to be as detailed as possible.
 
So can anyone gimme the size for the 2 bolts I need So i can purchase them?

I got a bolt size gauge for $5 at my local hardware store and has helped loads on figuring out what bolts I need. To find out depth just use a straight piece of wire in the questionable hole and your thumb nail on the wire to mark the depth then just measure. Keep in mind there may not be threads all the way down so look also.

On my 6 bolt I only had the four bolts it talks about in the write up.
 
Then you have already found where two of the missing bolts go. On the front right above the clutch actuator piston. The size of this bolt is not cricial it is a longer bolt and the threaded tab on the block goes all the way thru. No bottom. I had to buy this bolt and just guesstimated it mine it about 1/4" too long. Whatever. Better to have too long than to be too short. You want good thread saturation. The other missing bolt is M8 and threads thru the dowel from drivers side. It threads into the tranny and it does have a bottom to it. The method for measuring bolts you stated works but always subtract an 1/8 of an inch. That way you make sure you are mechanically bringing the two parts all the way together. Otherwise you might just be bottoming out in the hole and still leaving the parts loose.
And buy at least grade 8 bolts. Don't buy some crappy soft steel bolts. These bolts are under a lot of load. I think the stock bolts are grade 10.
 
The dowel pins go in a hole right? I mean like they fit in a little circle space on the tranny(or engine block)?
 
I am installing an engine later today, i will measure the rear bolt for you and let you know the length. Also you DO NOT need grade 8 bolts for this. Just get the standard grade metric that the hardware store sells.
 
I would really appreciate it. Can you get pics of where all the bolts go also? This will help me and future guys who have same problem
 
That 8mm bolt that goes thru the rear dowel is a grade 7 bolt. As are the bolts that hold the clutch to the flywheel.
I do not skimp on bolts. Inexpensive insurance. If its a grade 8 bolt I replace it with a grade 8 bolt. These bolts are speced as they are for a reason. Especially on a platform where many of us are doubling and tripling the horsepower figures of the original platform. I don't skimp on bolts. Grade 8 tranny to motor bolt is $2.60 if I remember correctly from a month ago. I don't skimp on suspension bolts, drivetrain bolts. Bolts that hold major components together. No.

Also I really slowdown & take my time when it comes to major systems. Very clean. Loctited. Torqued to spec. Double check everything. Don't rush clutch job.
 
My buddy has the same problem in his 2g ended up bein he put the clutch disk in backwards

Yes, It is very easy to install the disc backwards, that's why they are usually labled with "flywheel side". Not sure if that would cause the problem but anythings possible on these cars.
 
Well after he installed the clutch (an act 2100 if I remember rite) when you would try to engage the clutch it would cause the engine to drop rpm n stall. And if you tried engaging gears it would grind, but After we pulled the trans n clutch that's when I noticed it was installed in reverse installed it the rite way n everything ran perfect
 
IF you actually pay attention to what you are doing than it is IMPOSSIBLE to install the disc backwards. the friction surface will not sit flush with the flywheel, it either fits or doesn't, no questions to it.
 
So what is the general vote? can those 2 bolts really make all this happen? or is it more likely that I did something backwards like clutch disk backwards or something?
 
Ok I am in the process of finding a place to do the work. Will update as I can/ Thanks guys. And the other bolt is the same size and the 2 on top?
