get a test pipe but being loud isnt some thing to go for its not gonna be super loud either because of being a turboed car the turbo alone works as a muffler dont worry about sound take the extra money for maintenance

this may sound dumb but i see free mods everwhere what does that mean im sorry if i sound nieve i dont know a hole lot about dsms or turbo cars in general

so i can run no cat and still be ok ????

vfaq.com will quickly become your friend. before any thing i would change all fluids and filters also plugs and wires

Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

You need to read, read, read, and then read some more. There is an ENORMOUS amount of info to absorb on these cars, and most of it can be found right here if you take the time to search for it.

That is a beautiful car...please take the time to learn everything you can about it and do things the right way, rather than jumping straight onto the "crank up the boost" bandwagon and destroying it. :)

so i can run no cat and still be ok ????

Yes, if you don't have emission requirements. This is as good a question as any to start practicing your search skills.

DSM Forums - Search Forums

Type in "cat" or "exhaust" and search titles only. That and the link I mentioned above should give you enough reading material for at least a couple of hours to start with ;)

You also need to read the site rules, but there are two basic things to remember when it comes to getting the most out of this site and it's members.

1. Search first. There probably isn't any question you have at this point that hasn't been answered several times already, and it's very annoying to see the same old questions asked over and over.

2. Always try to use proper grammar and spelling. If you don't take the time to present yourself as an intelligent person, most of us won't take the time to decipher and respond to your question.

Beautiful car....welcome to the dark side!

since this car is so old can i run no cat just test pipe or a resonator and wont see any problems????

It depends on you and your smog rules. I have a cat that i use for smogging my car, after i get new tags i put the test pipe back on. It's technically "illegal" in the eyes of the states to run without a catalytic converter in the city, But if you live out of city limits your laws/regulations might be different. good luck :hellyeah:

well for right now i just wanna do the little things like exhaust bov boost controller and maybe turn the boost up to 13

BOV!!!!????!!?!?! Bad new member, Bad! You don't want to run a BOV the stock 1G is fine just keep it recirculated and if your after the sound, convert to SD and vent properly. Before you go throwing parts at your car, learn to walk before you run. Meaning do it right, get a boost gauge FIRST before any other modification you do to your car. then remove your BCS, then exhaust, so on and so fourth. Be nice to your beautiful car.

Yes you can run a test pipe and it will be fine. As stated before Vfaq is your bible. Almost any question you have is answered there. Sometimes it takes some searching but be patient and you will find an answer.

i put an autometer boost gauge in the other day so im running solid at 8 to 9 psi but my 240 runs 7 and it is way faster and it has the stock single cam with an ebay turbo setup

what is sd and what is bcs???

You obviously didn't read a word I said, or chose to ignore it.

ok so i ran a BLT not really leaking anywhere so i took the car out to a straight road where we all race and ran it and it stayed constant at 9 psi while in boost so i have come to the conclusion that it was just me thinking this car was going to be faster than what it really was so I'm starting tomorrow on some free mods and i will just hope for the best and i was doing some research some people are saying crushing the stock bov can eventually case your turbo to go bad because the bov isn't releasing all of the pressure and causing compressor surge any thought on this???

Its been said ten or more times now but ill sya it again, beautiful car man. What size wheel and tire setup is that? It has a good stance, as far as crushing the bov your nowhere near that point. Also listen to these guys about maintenance and taking the correct steps in modding. Im sure about 75% of us got our first dsm threw on some quick what we thought were go fast parts and id venture to say 100% of us regret it. Have fun with the car and have even more fun learning it....

Congrats on the purchase, your in for a treat! Its a boost leak though, look for the forum on how to make a cheap home depot tester or buy one from one of the vendors.

Sick car, do your maintenance, then worry about the other stuff... as for your psi talk and worrying about all the speed stuff... stick to the tried and true... if its in the free mods list (tech pages are my bible on this site) here on tuners or in vfaq.com, I would consider it an acceptable practice (as long as the responses seem good).

WARNING- that is not to say you should read a random post on here and expect it to be 100% correct. You must search for your answers fifteen ways from Sunday, reading each helpful topic, until you come to some sort of consensus that makes sense TO YOU. Please continue to read, read, and read some more, as all the guys above had stated... remember, if you really love your car, reading about it will be enjoyable anyway, so start using that search button like its the next best thing to your girlfriend...

ahhhh. yeah. so umm. i bought a car that was modded out to wazzoo, kept fixing problems here and there. till finally i flipped out and bought a shell, and started rebuilding that shell from the ground up.

i have more than 100% regret. and wasted a lot of money by not listening to advice on here. oh well, lesson learned.

ok so i just have a random question ive looked and cant find a reasonable answer if im holding steady and 9psi with no bleed off can i still have a boost leak limiting power
Are you saying its holding 9 lbs while driving? Also ill ask again what size tire and wheel setup is that?

17inch rims 225's in the front and 245's in the back and im saying it holds 9psi only when im wot

so pretty much what im asking is if im holding 9psi while wot can i still have a boost leak limiting power

Well you said you did a boost leak test and found no leaks. If your not seeing any issues in the way it runs you should be ok. Correct me if im wrong but it seems like your not impressed with the performance of the car. If thats the case and since you did put in a aftermarket boost gauge, get yourself a mbc and turn it up to about 12lbs. Dont crank it up anymore without having a logger and or a tuning device. Run exhaust and a k and n filter or somethin similar. That will help it out.
