First gear slippage with high idle

Hey so my 1996 Eclipse f4A33 auto trans has an issue.

I drove my car home the day I bought it, and the next day the car wouldn't move forward or backwards. I decided to pull the pan, and change the gasket and internal filter. added atf+4 fluid as required and got in, ran it through the gears, and decided to test it. The car went backwards, then forward with no issues, so I decided to drive it around the block.. did just fine. Came home, checked the fluid (intuition told me to) and it was low, so I topped it off, decided to drive around 1 more time, it went backwards, then when I stuck it in (D) it wouldn't go forward.. I had to push it back to it's parking spot.. I just got in it today after 3 weeks of letting it sit, started it and put it in drive and it went forward so I pulled out, and went to go forward, it would idle going forward just fine but if I press the gas it jerks like it's trying to go backwards and the gear completely disengages until I put it in nuetral for minimum of 5 seconds, then go back to (D) and it will engage, and it will have to idle up to atleast 3-4mph then you're fine to press the gas, but lightly. once moving it will go through ALL gears, no slippage. Any one else experience this?

Sounds like the pump in the transmission is going bad.

Sounds like the Low/Rev clutches or the seals are shot.

If the gear is slipping, you have worn clutch discs (yes auto transmissions have them). How many miles are on the trans?

It has 155k.

Update: Replaced the clutch discs and still reverse works perfectly but when I put it in drive i have to get to about 3k to get it to move and it only jerks forward once or twice and stops moving. Ugh issue issue issue

So I finally pulled out the tranny today, the front clutch discs were almost nothing, and the torque converter was all rusted up. Is it normal to have a rusted torque converter if as far as you know the tranny never has been pulled?

My stock converter in my 96 is pretty rusty. people left the dust shields off so moisture gets in there and it starts to rust.

It won't harm anything though. While you have the trans apart I would recommend putting the Kiggly Flexplate in it. I put one in mine for piece of mind and for future power upgrades. It's a high quality piece. The stock ones are known to crack pretty easily.

Make sure you go through the valve body really good and check all the solenoids for proper operation and check the separator plate real good as the check balls will wear them out. 9/10 if the clutches are worn that bad there is either a seal problem or a problem in the valve body.

Check the pilot bushing, any wear on the TC's input collar along with diff seals while it's out.

The pilot bushing was relatively loose when I went to pull it. 1 shock hit from the hammar and it bounced out. I converted to Manual trans so the auto shell and all the stuff with it is up for sale dirt cheap.
