I have been reading every single thread on the FP30, and trying to gather as many impressions as possible for quite some time now, finally around May I ordered one from Forced Performance and installed it on my car. The turbo is completely amazing and spoolup is awesome for the size that it is. I am not gonna bother you guys with install impressions, etc, etc. since others have done it many times.

I dynoed the car yesterday on pump and race gas. I had too many issues with knock on
pump gas so I only ran 18lbs of boost on BP Amoco 93 octane Gas. At this boost level
with some knock the car made 348.4 HP at the wheels.

Then thre is some VP race gas (C16) and raised the boost another 10lbs (28lbs) and
the car put down 451.9 HP and 416 lbs or torque. This was with messed up plugs and
misfires up on top. The really cool part is that we reached this power level around 5700rpm

Next time I will have a few spare sets of plug and hopefully with a SMIM I might get a few more ponnies out of it.

Below you can see both the pump gas (18lbs) and race gas (28lbs) graphs

Sweet, nice to see some numbers from this turbo. What state of tune do you think you are in? In other words, do you think you can improve on these numbers with more tuning and fixing your ign problem?

Let us know if you change anything and go back for some more runs. :thumb:

Thats awesome an extra 100 horses by just uping the boost 10lbs and putting in some race gas! And the car is not even at 100%, good job man!!!

Thanx guys, on pump gas we could not get rid of my knock and the more we leaned it the more it knocked. So we just tuned a bit rich in certain sports to keep knock away.

As far as race gas is concerned there is more to be done. Next time I will have a few spare sets of plugs before I go to the dyno. This was done with fairly messed up plugs and the car was really hot. It was 85+ outside and I don't even know what the temps were at the dyno. Also I am still running the 2G MAS and stock intake manifold. Thinking about a sheetmetal intake and possibly some impovement in the ignition and we might be able to squeeze a few more horses on race gas. The turbo should be able to take 30 lbs of boost ... I think (either way I am gonna try it). I will keep everyone posted :D

I have Ross 8:5.1 pistons. They make my car nice and responsive but harder to tune with a lot of boost on pump gas.

ok thanks ... same thing I'm running. Have you ever done a compression test on your car? Do you remember the numbers ( or at least close to what they were ) ... I'm getting 165 across the board which seems low but then maybe the mls gasket being thicker is why. Itd be nice to compare my numbers with someone elses though. :thumb:

Don't really know what the compression is. I have never measured it

Why do I keep reading on here that it's harder to tune on lower c/r motors? Can someone explain this?

Like a compression and leak down test? It is vital in determining the "health" of you engine. You should have someone do it for you if you don't know how.

Hey Vassil, nice numbers. I have almost the same exact setup as you except I have a stock head, FRH manifold and GM MAFT. I was wondering how much of an improvement you noticed with your ported and polished head. I am just wondering if that is holding me back at all. My best time so far with the FP 3052 is 11.58 @ 121 mph at 21 psi and 110 octane race gas mixed with 94 octane. Also I was curious when you reach full boost.

Thanks,
Ryan

Thanx man :) I am sure that the ported/polished head and the bigger valves helped quite a bit. I got my whole longblock done at Engintecs. Mitch is the import pro over there, give him a buzz and I am sure he can give you more details on what he did. They are cool guys, and they do exceptional work. I was talking to Robert at FP about the dyno results and he said that there was a kid with a stock top end that dynoed at AMS and did not even crack the 400HP mark. In your case with the MAFT and the FRH mani you should be able to do really good. This turbo flows a massive amount of air at 28lbs, and in my opinion a well prepped head would help.

BTW, nice ETs and MPH, I hope to make it to the track soon and get reasonable times also

not even at AMS on the "magic" dyno??? that thing reads high and he still couldn't make 400 huh :(

awesome numbas though!! woot for mn

Please explain your dyno comment. If anything Our dyno reads on the low side. We took our evo which pulled 620 whp on our dyno to an AWD Dynojet and it read 605 to all 4 wheels. considering the average 5-7% loss between the two dyno;s I would say ours is reading low. every single dyno is different and if you are going to take a shot at our shop please back it up with some sort of evidence. We pride ourselves on our products and Tuning and all of our numbers are true to life. If you have a problem then I invite you to actually hold a conversation with Martin to understand why he gets the numbers he does. do you know your injector duty cycle on the race gas pull?
I'd lbe interested in knowing that too...I suspect you're pushing those 660s pretty hard up top, and that had to be a contributor to the problems you had on pump gas. Mitch mentioned you were seeing crazy timing advance too...something a little better than an AFC in your future, maybe? ;)

And congrats! That's a damn nice result :thumb: Posts like yours have me mentally bench-racing the 2.4 Mitch is putting together for me (since that's the turbo I'm targetting for mine), and I like what I'm thinking. :D

Im wondering why you are knocking so bad at 18 lbs. What intercooler are you running?

I have a 50trim, and spearco 2-216 and run 23psi on 91 octane with absolutely no knock. This is tuned to 10.5: a/f.

What are you running for timing? Also have you checked to make sure you base timing is dead on?

*edit* and thats also with 8.5:1 compression.

woah settle down STAMPY! i'm not raggin on AMS, thats like raggin on Shep in my opinion, its just not kosher. what i do know is a few people have dyno'd at the dyno near me, and then at the AMS one and they've always made more power there w/o any tuning changes. i know that no two dynos read the same, they have to be calibrated and such. i'm also not the first to say AMS has a magical dyno, but who friggin cares honestly? you have numerous cars in the low 11s, 10s, and 9s, and the track doesn't lie or need to be calibrated
