Alright, so i'm mounting my profec b-II and my greddy TT underneath my radio, and i'd like to build a fiberlass front for them. I have them setup the way i would like to mount them, and I know how i'm going to secure them. The only issue I'm having is how to lay the first layer of glass. Should i leave the profec and TT sitting like i want them to, cover them with masking tape or tinfoil, then just lay the glass over that and pull them out when the first layer cures? Or do you guys have any better tricks.

I have pics of them mocked up, but i had to use my videocamer, because i couldnt find the digicam, so please excuse the poor lighting and bad quality. I'll try to get better ones later if you guys need.

yeah set them up the way u want em and wrap the foil around it so u dont get resin all over the stuff, then go to town.
good luck

personally for me id make a cardboard mock of the tt and such. alum foil and whatever is a good idea but sometimes shit can happen.

no tenfoil
I would tap off what ever you want to glass then spray pva mold releser on it then take the tap off of what you want to glass then start glassing then sand then gelcoat

if you don't have acces to the mold releaser... try this:

use ABS or PVC plastic for the new faceplate. very easy to cut out your openings for the TT and such, and very easy to superglue pieces together.

get everything mocked up, scuff the pieces very good (80grit) then superglue together. a good body filler (Rage Gold) will adhere nicely to the PVC/ABS and get you your desired finished look.

if the piece is not not strong enough, you can drizzle resin over the back of the piece to strengthen it, one sheet of matting if you wish should really harden it up nicely.

prime... paint... enjoy

edit: check my webpage, i think i have a writeup on there somewhere on using the PVC for faceplates for radio bezels and guage bezels. maybe that will help you with a few ideas.

Well I decided that I would make faux peices out of some foam core and i made them about 1/2 an inch wider and taller than the actual peice. This will give me a lil something extra to work with when cutting the openings (i forgot all about that part when i was doing this yesterday). When i went to the garage to begin my fiberglassing i realized i was all out of catalyst hardener, so whenever i get to the parts store to pick up some more i'll post a few pics of the progress.
