hey, i am looking at a 92' TSI AWD 6 bolt but i am unsure if i should get it. Its all stock and only has 76,000 original miles. I was looking at what i am able to buy for it, and was curious if anybody could give me an approximate time that i could run. The parts include all of the little stuff(injectors, proper tuning, fuel pumps, etc.) and a FMIC, one of the better AGP turbos, 3 inch straight exhaust, new pistons/rods, and intake manifold. i calculated it to be alittle over $5,500 assuming that i will do most of the work and some of the minor parts i can get from my friends and stuff like that. So my question! i know my parts arnt that specific and it is hard to estimate a time and hp, but would it be close to 300 hp, 350, 400????? 13 sec, 12 sec, 11 sec??? and how will my transmission hold up?? and also, the guy is asking $2500 but it needs paint, too much?

any info will be greatly appreciated!! and o yeah, if i dont get this i am just going to save up alittle longer for an SRT-4.........is that good or bad?? and should i do it or get the TSI?

sorry, but i forgot to mention that i will be spraying about an 80 shot of wet nitrous if i get the car. I have the kit just nothing to put it on!!!!

First of all, I would do all basic safe matinence (timing belt kit, water pump, oil pump, plugs, wires, swap out all fluids)

Also, you would want to at least add a metal multi-layer head gasket to your list, definately a datalogger, like DSMlink, different exhaust manifold, AFPR, and so on.
Dont take this the wrong way, but you should do your homework extensively on these vehicles before ordering parts and putting them on, read this as well, and just make sure you know what your doing, DSM's are very tempermental if upgraded the wrong way, but definately get the TSI, these cars are awesome, you wont be dissappointed.

Are you seriously comparing the art4 and a tsi? TSi hands down. Tsi's can pull 400whp on bolt-ons alone. Just read the site. I would love to find a 92 AWD with under 100k miles.

The tuning guide mentioned by robs90ti, tells gives you an idea of what you need to reach your goal. This site strongly discourages its members from going around guessing how much horsepower is in a box of parts.

I strongly second the motion to read the "Tuning Guide".

Follow it like the Bible.

I feel this is one of the best sites around to learn from. I had a lot of wrong ideas when I started to modify my car. After being on this site for a couple years now, I realize how wrong my expectations and ideas of how things work were.

Definitely make sure you have all you maintenance up to par first.

Use the search A LOT. I prefer the customized search looking for key words in “Title’s Only”. It will save you time from reading posts that end up not being what you need.

If you’re doing you own work, then use the tech articles. They give a lot of good pointers, ideas and little tricks to make things easier. There good even if you an experienced mechanic.

DSM’s are finicky, but if you maintain them well, you’ll never look back.

P.S.

Read a lot about nitrous. I car with a turbo on nitrous is a lot different than one without.
