Fake HKS wastegates?

Has anyone had any experience w/ these wastegates shown in this auction?

Now they're being advertised as HKS but you'll see an XS Engineering label or something on the box in the first link if you scroll down a ways...

If they work then I dont really have a problem I guess. But people shouldn't be led to believe their buying something they're not either. I'm actually thinking about buying one myself to see what these are all about unless someone says not to.

I could have sworn to God there was a thread about this same subject a while back.

I searched, couldn't find it.

Look up the specs on the XS wastegate?
 
SSautochrome sells alot of turbo manifolds and headers for hondas, and all them say that the turbo manifolds are prone to cracking due to cheap manufacturing and no support for the turbo. Just thought I would let everyone know.
 
Why do you call this a “fake HKS wastegate”? I do not see them pretending that is HKS.

If anything, this looks like a nock off TiAl 38mm WG. I wonder if they just copied Tial’s WG or the same manufacturers (as what TiAl is using) is selling those parts to someone else (wouldn’t be the first time…)

It might be worth a shot to try out this manifold on the race car, but I would not use it for daily duty.

Doubtful man, its probably yet another ripoff product. My buddy got a fake HKS SSQV and it doesnt work worth a shit, even though it does look 100% the same. I'd be really careful when buying one of those wastegates. Its from SS Autochrome, so that lowers my expectations as well too.

They never have the wastegate listed as any brand, they jsut threw HKS in the title to grab searches on ebay.
 
The only place were they claim it's an HKS is in the auction title. I think it looks like a Tial too. I dont know I'm a little leary. I think I might try the manifold though. As my car only racked up about 550 miles this year I think cracking could be postponed. I'd planned to build some type of support for the turbo anyways. I was going to build my own manifold per my own design this winter but doing so would down size my radiator space to Honda size and I dont know if I have time to do all the hacking and changing considering all of the other plans I have... I'll only need the manifold for one season anyways if I keep going at the rate I am, as far as mods that is.

I guess I'll try the manifold and just pay the price for a real Tial and be done w/ it.

Well there was a thread on this before but it seem to disappear... Anywayz it talked about how the Dsm guys didnt like it becuase of the cheap quality manifold would break and that the welds were shitty.... I didnt really think nothing of it till i seen that SS autochome started to sell the manifold, wastegate, bov, and turbo for the dsm and other cars.. Well My good friend bought one for his talon, and my other friend bought the same kit but for a B series honda motor..... the Results after 3 hours of being on the car Both the Turbos Broke the main shaft in half and locked up. My buddy with the talon melted some of his manifold and the wastegate is doing fine i guess... Now the manifold on the crx is still ok but be forwarned this stuff is CRAP... Genuwine CRAP... go to agp or slowboy and buy a real manifold and turbo thats tried and true... DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME..... :D

I was looking into these before, but I read the feedback, and they sounded like junk, but sounded like is nothing compared to the pics you just showed me. That is the biggest piece of sh*t I have ever seen. A junior high mechanic class could build something much better than that.
 
in all honestly....ssautochrome header for the non turbos are decent for the price. I got the chrome header and chrome 2.5in downpipe for my old RS eclipse from them all for $150 and it did make some performance gain and looks good untill the heat changed the chrome to a blueish color. Other than that it was a decent header performance and looks wise for the price for the NON turbo 420A. As for holding up a turbo and getting that much hotter than it would on a non turbo, I would not suggest it at all. Just my $0.02 tho.

and GRNDSM, just wondering if you still have the wing on your car? hehe :)
 
I looked at getting one of these and having a local place sandblast or beadblast it all down and the weld over there craptastic welds a couple times and see if it would hold. Which they garenteed me it would if I let them do it but I'm still kinda leary.

Well I guess it's back to building my own. I work at a fab. shop anyways so why not I guess. I just dont think I'll have time to do everything I want to do this winter. I just figured I'd have more than the money they want for these things into material alone. This way I'll get the appropriate lengths and collector I want anyways.

It's not that simple. The flange is mild steel and the runners are extremly thin stainless steel. The tig welding done on the manifold is acctually pretty good because guys in Taiwan can weld pretty well as you can see, but the materials used are just crap so you can re-weld it alll you want because that is what your gonna ber doing all lthe time as it cracks constantly.

I agree about their non turbo products they are descent. A non-turbo car doesn't create the EGT or have as harsh an environment in the exhaust manifold as a turbo car does so making a turbo header using non-turbo style building is really where they went wrong.
