F5M33 shift pattern...help!!!

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to the forum, and I've really liked what I've seen so far. Everyone here seems to know a great deal, and seem very courteous as well. I've tried searching for my problem, but can't seem to find anything.

The problem that I'm having is strange. Long story short, I recently had to replace the transmission in my 93 Talson ES N/T. I purchased a transmission online, but found out later that the original tranny was an F5M22, and the new one is an F5M33. After doing some research I found out that they were interchangeable, providing the flywheel, etc. were changed as well. Needless to say (since this is the first Talon I've worked on), I found a lot of this out after the fact. So I went through and changed everything.

After getting everything wrenched back together, I started it up, and shifted through the gears. Everything seemed fine. But, for some reason I cannot get it to go into reverse. It's like I can't move the shifter over far enough, and end up putting it in 4th instead. Is reverse further over on the F5M33 as opposed to the F5M22? Should I try adjusting the shifter to compensate, or am I missing something here?

See if the little plastic block is in the transmission linkage. It's a little square thing and I think it's white. If that is lost, it can make shifting difficult as it takes up the slack.

You also might have to adjust your cables. That's done inside next to the shifter.

You 're going to enjoy that one.. Just kiddding. Adjust so that the two extremes both go into gear. That being Reverse and Second

Just wanted to let you know that I did have to adjust the shifter. It shifts beautifully now into all gears. Thanks for the assistance.
