External Wastegate

Is it possible to externally gate an EVOIII? Is it a good idea to externally gate an evo3? what are some of the pros and cons of externally gating a smaller turbo like that?

You can externally gate any turbo, if you have the money it's the best option.

There are no cons other than the cost involved. There haven't been many reports of EVO 16gs creeping though. If you mount it on the manifold, you will need to weld the flapper door shut. If you mount it on the O2 housing, then you need to remove the flapper.

i wasnt really concerned about creep, more so about spool up time. do u think that 40mm wg would be to big? should i get a 38mm or 36mm instead? i was planning on mounting it to the o2 housing and using a .8 or .9 bar spring. How much do u think itd cost to cut off the flapper?

I don't see any reason you need a 40mm, a 36 should be fine.

Unless you have plans of going bigger later. You never see yourself going to a bigger turbo, but it happens Essentially, the bigger the WG relative to the turbo, the better control you have on controlling or running lower boost levels.

well i was thinkin about maybe a 50 trim next year and then maybe later a 57 trim

An external wastegate isn't going to help your spoolup.
