Hey guys whats up,

I just bought a Tial 38mm External Gate for my 50 trim setup. I will be using an evo III exhaust manifold.

My question is......Is puttting the gate on the exhaust manifold the best way to go?? In terms of less money spent and easiest way to put on, and is the dump tube for the gate a pain in the ass for clearance issues??

Also Would it be cheaper to find an O2 housing with a flange already on it for the Ex. Gate, and would i have to worry about clearance issues as much, if so, where could i get one of these.

I am most likely gonna get it put on the exhaust manny, im just getting some opinions

Thanks for you help guys.

o2 mounted is best....manifolds are known to crack, i would imagine that flanging a manifold for a wastegate would only increase it's chances of craking.
Mounted on the o2 is also more adequate boost control since it is more evenly distributed backpressure as opposed to having the gate run from a specific runner... :thumb:

Thanks alot for your input, i will now buy a vp O2 housing.

Now, another question.

Should i have the Ex. wastegate setup dumping, or recirculated in the O2 housing. Whether one being illegal, i dont care, i want whats best.

Another question......What do i do about my turbos flapper??? do i remove it when i have the ex. wastegate set-up on the O2 housing???

Thanks alot again guys

I am in Florida so I don't have rigid emmision standards and testing as some other states. I do use a Tial 40mm mounted on a VP 02 housing that dumps to the atmosphere. I can live with the sound of the dump and from a performance stand point, there are some gains from doing so. Just be aware that performance, driver comfort, and local regulations should all be a factor in whether or not you should dump or recirculate.

reason why i say i dont care if its legal or not, is because im already runnin around with no cat for my exhaust, so it really doesnt matter to me.

Anyways, thanks for the reply, but what about the flapper on my turbo???

Do i need to take it out??

Thanks alot

if your running a mitsu turbo, grind off the weld on the arm, remove the flapper assembly from the turbine housing and weld the "flapper arm hole" shut. To make it as efficient as possible, port the wastegate opening as much as you can. Good luck. :thumb:

Hey guys thanks for all of your input i appreciate it.

Ok....i went to Victory Performance, and saw the O2 housing that i need, but damn.....that thing is gonna cost me $392. I was going to go with the external gate 38mm flange, and recirculated instead of dumped.

Now i know VP does awesome work, because my friend has one of their O2 housings, and it looks fantastic, and the welds are Flawless. And pretty much in the car world, you get what you pay for, and im not a cheap person when it comes to my Talon, but damn, that's gonna put a dent in my budget.

Although i will still most likely go with Victory Performance, is there any other place that sells these O2 housings with ex. gate set-ups???

I appreciate your help.

I believe Punishment Racing is coming out with with one in the near future. When I was looking for one I wrote them an email and that is pretty much what they told me. I bought my VP housing on ebay for less than $250 brand new. Keep vigilant and one will pop up somewhere. I saw quite a few after I bought mine. The only thing is that the Tial 40mm the housing was flanged for are pretty expensive but I got one anyway. Here is a pic I got from another DSMer in the DSMLink forums.

On the topic of location:

A wastegate mounted on the manifold AFTER the collector area is the best overall. In my opinion, the next best location is the O2 housing, and lastly one of the runners on the manifold.

Another good thing about running the gate on the manifold is you can run any turbo you want, it doesn't have to match the outlet flange on your O2 housing (you just need a pipe).

The guy who was gonna do my exhaust manifold flanging said its a pain to weld on cast iron. Im no welder so i have no idea.

You said the best place is on the collecter of the exhaust, where is that. is that in the middle where all the runners meet???

1fastgsx, where is yours flanged at???? a runner or the collecter.

should i take the cheaper road, because i have the evo III O2 housing ported.....i really dont want to get rid of that because i havent had it that long.

But from what you guys say now, the manifold seems to be just as efficeint and cheaper.
