ok ive got a tial wastegate and a evo mani... from what i understand its almot impossiably to weld a steel flange to the cast iorn manifold..

so i know ive seen it done.. how do you do it without cracking the crap out of the mani?

thanks..

and yes i did search but i couldnt find much..

Im sure theres dozens more on here that know more about it than I but yes you can weld to cast iron.Ive always been told you have to heat the iron up-till it starts to glow a touch and then weld.Maybe its just a wisetale but its always worked for me.

Well I did weld a nut for the knock sensor on the back of my 64 block without getting the block that hot-I did heat it just not glowing or anything.

the other thing that just poped into my head was after you weld the flange on do you then cut/drill the hole for the wastegate in the #1 runner? or would you do it before you put the flange on?

thanks for the response btw

if I remember I will take some of mine tomorrow ... it's off the car so I can get pics from a few angles. My wastegate was a little too far towards the front of the manifold because it only cleared the radiator by about 1/2" ... I think a 1g has more clearance than my 2g anyways though so you should be fine the same way mine is.

Yes you can weld the iron waste gate to a cast steel. Just make sure the iron is at the melting temp or else it will just cover it. Cast iron"s melting temp is so much lower then the iron piece so you just gotta make sure you the iron is at melting temp {hard to explain you can pm if you need more info} and yes pre drill your hole it will just make thing"s easier. Thats about it if you need more info let me know :talon:
