I thought cherry bombs were stamped tho? I love the way they sound and want to keep them and change the rest of the set up. But if they are a name brand I wanted to try and match it all. But if it’s custom then I’ll probably have a custom set up made from the headers back since it seems like it has the stock cat still with headers and this muffler. Don’t know if these cars came with a resonator or not but I don’t think I see one on it.

I use the term " cherry bomb" loosely, I just mean a glass pack of some sort. Is you're car a turbo or n/t? I don't believe there is a factory resonator of any kind, just the cat and muffler IIRC.

I wouldn't worry about changing the exhaust now, n/t isn't going to respond really to an exhaust, so if it ain't broke don't fix it RN.
    What are your future plans?

The header is a cheap eBay one I’m pretty sure and is missing a plug and doesn’t fit the block properly. Is I’m going to have to pull it and drill one hole a little bigger so I can get all the header bolts back in to stop the exhaust leak at the header and block. Plus I gotta find a plug for that huge ass deal sticking out the side of it. Then I gotta weld to hangers back that are broken so I figured why I was under there why not put a high flow cat and get it breathing a little better. I was thinking about a resonator also to help with the tone so it keeps the deep tone it has after I change the cat. But that depends on weather or not it has the raspy or droning sound when I get a cat put on.
I plan on doing a 2.4 swap in the future with having it built to be ready to throw a turbo on after I drive it around and break in the motor some. But right now I’m trying to find a 5 speed tranny for it and not having any luck doing so.

i never totally deleted the resonator. i ran the factory midpipe with the resonator until i got an aftermarket mid section. The resonator on the factory piping sounded way better than the one on the aftermarket pipe.
It had some added rasppiness with the aftermarket mid pipe

After looking I do still have the stock resonator and cat. I’ll probably keep the stock resonator on since a lot of people say it sounds the best and just put a high flow cat on the car. Can I get rid of the flex pipe? I know those are always prone to rip and leak and I just plain out don’t like them.

I wouldn't remove the flex pipe, replace it if needed, it'll help with vibrations and any engine movement. Without a flex section you might notice cracks or broken hangers sooner.

I'd just fix what you need to now, if you want a high flow cat you could do one, but I'd honestly wait till you do the 2.4 swap to sort the exhaust. Otherwise you'll end up doing things twice and spending unnecessary money, especially with planning a turbo in the future.

Having a resonator definitely helps kill the rasp and cabin drone, especially when n/t, plan on keeping or having one on your final rendition.

The main reason I want to do a high flow cat now is because the 2.4 swap is going to be a slow build due to me having a 6 month old daughter and some other stuff going on in life. So I wanted it to sound as clean and good as possible till I got the build done. Then I was planing on changing over to probably a 3” exhaust system when I got it built and put a turbo on it.

I wouldn't worry about the cat right now, as if you change to a 3" later, you'll either have to change cats or heavily modify what you buy now. Save money and do it later, the sound profile while change with everything you do to the setup: displacement, turbo add-on etc. So going for sound right now isn't going to help alot and the car doesn't need a high flow cat in it's current state, just a functional one if you're in an emissions compliant area.

I’m in a safety inspection only area as of right now so I could run straight pipe if I wanted to. I found a 97 Talon ESI in good condition the guy said he would sell me for $350 I might just use that for my build and have one for my daily driver.
