Exhaust system matching

Hey Guys,

I'm torn between the 3" HKS Hi Power and Carbon Ti catback exhaust systems... I'm under the impression that they're the exact same minus the Ti has the titanium tip and stainless steel piping.. is this correct?

I'm also in the market for a high-flow cat (3"?) and a downpipe with o2 sensor that will connect to the cat. Should I go with a 2.5" or 3" dp? I've heard a lot of stories of boost creep with the 3"...

Can anyone recommend a good 3" cat and downpipe to go with it?



Right now I'm almost completely stock - 95 gsx, 5 spd, Injen intake with filter, MBC, and gauges, thought the exhaust would be a good thing to take on next.

If you go with a 2.5 dp and 3 inch catback..Its basically like the whole thing is 2.5..Exhaust is only as good as it's smallest point..So if you want room to grow into more mods..3 inch would be best..If your going to stay stockish, 2.5 wouldn't a be a bad option..

That makes sense, 3" it is.

Any particular brands of cat and dp that go well together? (and with the HKS Hi Power cat-back)

Must have emmisions in your area if your going with a cat..I would stay away from ebay hiflow cats..They maybe cheap and high flow, but they lack in precious metals..And would most definatly kill your chance of passing emmisions..Most like the thermal exhaust but HKS is also another high quality kit..If you miss match you might have to mod a bit to make fit..But they also might fit together perfectly..You won't know till you try..

I wouldn't say running a 2.5" downpipe and a 3" cat-back is the same as running a 2.5" turbo-back. If this were true upgrading just a cat-back on a car would do nothing for performance. Also, with that reasoning a stock o2 sensor housing and traditional aftermarket downpipe with a 2.5" entrance would defeat the purpose of having a 3" exhaust the rest of the way. This is more true in the opposite scenario. If someone were to upgrade to a 3" downpipe and only a 2.5" cat-back, it would basically defeat the purpose of the cat-back being a larger diameter.
