2G Exhaust Questions.

Hey fellas, i just have had some ideas lately on puttin exhaust on my 2g. Im looking at a 3" tuboback setup from a local shop. My car is currently runnning the stock turbo. I was just wondering if 3" is the best route to go. I know al about the problems with boost creep on the T25 with a 3" setup. I plan on upgrading to a big 16 or so once i get the cash. Should i just go on ahead and get the 3"? so i dont have to later, or just go with a 2.5"? My other question is about the regular old aluminized piping, or stainless. I know the aluminized piping tends to get all corroded and rusted, but is the stailess worth the extra 150 bucks? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have the stock T-25 turbo and I ran full 3" from the turbo back, and no cat. I do have slight boost creep, but it only creeps from 14 psi to like 15 or MAYBE 16 psi. Like you, I plan on upgrading the turbo soon.

I say get the 3 inch and live with boost creep for a little while. I went with the old aluminized piping because it's not a show car that I park with mirrors underneath it. Plus, the entire system less the muffler itself ran me $135, so I couldn't justify paying over double that just for stainless. The engine will run the same no matter which one you go with, remember that.

ok so catbox i am sure that you didn't get a mandrel bent setup since you only paid only 135 bucks for it....anyways to answer the question dont get an exhaust unless you get a 3inch MANDREL setup and splurge on the stainless being it'll last alot longer and is alot more durable....seriously stock exhaust is better than a non mandrel exhaust !! dont waist your money you'll only regret it !

3" aluminized if you don't drive through snow. By the way my muffler shop guy did 3" catback mandrel bent piping for $150 and I am very happy with it

I agree that non-mandrel bent pipe is not as good as mandrel bent, but come on - it's not worse than stock! Hell, when I put that cheap 3" open exhaust, non-mandrel bent pipe on, it seriously felt like I installed a nitrous kit that just sprays all the time.

Yeah, ive decide to go with the aluminized piping, only due to financial constraints at the moment. I think im still gonna go with the 3" over the 2.5", i know its gonna creep, but i dont want to have to go back and buy parts again later.

If you don't plan on going biger than the 16g, 2.5" should be good enough. Boost creep affects every car differently because there are too many variables. I had creep with my s16g even with 2.5" setup.

So you're telling me that the stock 2.25" crushbent exhaust is better than a 3" pressbent? Remarkable!

Mandrel is the best people, but that doesn't necessarily mean everything else is bad....just not as good

On the top of SS vs aluminized...it'll depend on where you live. If you're somewhere that gets a lot of bad weather and snow, and your car sees salt on the road...don't touch aluminized, unless you want it to rust out. But if you live somewhere like Texas where an inch of snow in a year makes people run in fear, there's not really much point in going with stainless.
