This spring I plan on doing my exhaust... My car is bone stock, and the mods i plan to do are minor. I don't plan to upgrade my turbo, but I do however wish for it to spool fast. Any suggestions for a manifold that will fit the stock setup but reduce the "stock turbo lag"... I was told the EVO III manifold would do the trick? is this true? I also plan on getting a downpipe, and test pipe, then having a local exhaust shop mandral bend some pipe for me, then finish it off with a magniflow muffler... Suggestions please :thumb:

Your 2g will be fine. you can port the manifold, turbine and o2 via vfaq to help with spool.

Is there really that much lag on our DSMs? I have a 1g and I think there isn't much lag. In my setup, I had the MAFT and my exhaust system was stock but I had no muffler. My turbo was spoolin like crazy. I would be boosting 20psi+ at 3000rpms. Is that still lag?

I dunno about the lag... All I know is that when I hit the petal, I can tell that the turbo isn't spooling very fast, feels like a dog at first, then the when exhaust starts flowing it really puts out the power.... maybe its because i have the stock exhaust... or i expect too much out of the stock perfomance...

a turbo lags , no doubt about that , its just the way it works , anywhere under 2500 rpm and you'll have little boost , then boost rises almost exponentially.

I don't think changing your manifold will do much , but if you insist , get an evo manifold , less restritive than stock , no too expensive either. but i would change other stuff before the manifold , invest in a boost gauge and boost controller , and then a k&n filter with dejon tool intake . money better spent then the manifold , and beetter gains no doubt about that .

Just get your 2g manifold, the hot side of your turbo, and your O2 housing ported. Or better/cheaper yet, do it yourself.

I've never thought so. Nothing any worse than trying to keep a non-supercharged performance engine "on the cam" at any rate. But if you're an automotive writer, you can't talk about turbos without mentionnig lag. After all, it's in all the magazines, so it must be true.

I know there is a little bit of lag, but its really not that bad, once you learn how to drive it and keep it in the right gear/rpm. My dad drives a ls1 camaro with a few mods, and he was driving my car the other day in town he had it in 3rd gear at 20 mph and steped down on it, lugged it pretty bad, i tryed to tell him the car dosent have any power at 1400rpms. Remeber you dont have a hude displacement, your car takes rpms to make power. Just remember its only a little t-25.

If you're not upgrading much else, I'd say get your mani ported, If you're just itching to buy a new manifold, I'd get the one from SBR, I've seen it up close and it looks better than some of the ported EVO ones. That's what I'm goin for at least, but then I am going for over 400whp when I'm (temporarily) done.

probably growing up on a 1967 396 Chevelle, or a 1970 Hemi Charger... Heck, I can't deny that my old 5.0 notch had WAY too much balls at 1500rpm... it depends on how you make power. Nearly any V8 is going to have enough TQ at 1500rpm to let you floor it and FEEL the power. Whether they have any HP or flow to support HP higher up is the issue.

An LS1 with mods (specially gears) would shock most DSM'ers even those able to totally pound the LS1. How a car FEELS is TQ. I used to run my 92 Stealth TT (modded) against guys, typically LS1 or 5.0, and I'd spank 'em well. Then I'd go for a ride in the V8- it felt insanely stronger than my AWD... then I'd take them for a ride- and they'd ALWAYS demad a rematch...

TQ makes a car feel fast. and TQ means you can drive around at 1500rpms with enough power to break the tires loose indefinately...

it's different...

Turbo cars rely on rpm to make power, that is where you see turbo lag. yes low rpms and just hitting the gas isnt going to make your car go fast...which is where driving skill comes in if your into racing... :talon:
