Vee,
So i've been searching and trying to decide which exhaust to get for my car. The best choices i have seen are from apexi and megan racing for a 3 inch turbo back ...I still have the stock turbo on my car but planning to upgrade soon. Anyway i already have a 3 inch exhaust in the car from the previous owner but where the secondary O2 sensor is they decided to cut the stock pipe and weld it on the now cut 3 inch pipe wit a restriction right at the O2 sensor ... i dont know why they could not afford to drill a hole and weld on a 5 dollar O2 threads on anyway getting off topic...

Which exhaust would you guys recommend??? ... The megan racing has a resignator i noticed...im wondering if the resignator is still 3 inches or does it downsize a bit ??? Also wondering if the apexi or megan racing exhaust rattle since it might not have enough clearance if it wasnt designed properly... Your much needed input would be much apreciated... Thank you in advance... XD

Im also open to other brands , those 2 are just the ones that caught my eye the most

I would recommend the Apexi downpipe catback combo, because i think the reducer from cat to downpipe is removable so its all 3in. Megan Racing exhaust is good also probably cost less as well, but its your choice.

You should consider getting a Buschur racing exhaust. My brother has one and its really nice. When i go to upgrade my exhaust i plan on going with Buschur Racing. It has a great sound.

i agree that out of the two you should choose the apexi over the megan.. buschur is sounds sweet but my vote overall would be the apexi. good luck :thumb:

i personally have a magnaflow on my gsx with 2.75 inch piping and i love the way mine sounds especially when you down shift from 5th to 3rd you guys should kno what im talking about when that turbo spools and the exaust screams:hellyeah:

when you say reducer do you mean the reducer from the turbo to the downpipe ??? because my current downpipe is i belive 2.5 right after the turbo then goes up to 3 inch after the flex pipe of the down pipe...

i was looking at the Buschur racing exhaust and its more expensive and i was wondering if its really worth it to spend that much more well the downpipe at least... since the catback is 450 which is roughly what megan and apexi cost but the downpipe is 300 dollars and it seems like its not stainless steel so yea...

You can also take your car to a local muffler shop and have them custom-make you a straight 3" pipe from the downpipe all the way back to the muffler and call it a day. I'm sure it'll be cheaper than buying a cat-back, depending on where you go, hunt for deals.

similar to what i did, you do have tons of options when it comes to this part of your modification, the cheapest stainless steel option is always a great one, you just might not get the sound you're looking for, mine sounds great though (its basically a full turboback custom but it was done by a friend at a shop for pretty cheap)

If your looking for power gains go with a mandrel bent(cost more at the local places if they even do it). But if its more for sound just go to the local shop and get a press. bent exhuast, shouldn't cost more than 250-300 all the way through.

I don't know what your mods are, so not sure how big this issues will be but the Apexi N1 system's resonator is a huge restriction. It necks down to 2" or less internally. If your on a stockish setup probably not a big deal but if your going for bigger power & want to run the Apexi, chop out their resonator & pull a true 3" straight through resonator (this will make the system louder).

sounds like a good idea...where can you find a 3 inch resonator or do you have to completely get rid of it and make it even louder ??? i dont mind it being super loud its just if its quiter it would be a bit better for me so its not as a heated ...btw quick question how does the apexi fit ??? do all the hangers line up ??? and also does it rattle at all ???

Just get Thermal and Megan DP it's full 3" and Thermal is strait pipe and perfect fit.

Just do some looking around at exhaust company sites & you'll come across lots. Vibrant Performance makes some nice ones (what I'm running) & I know Magnaflow makes them as well.

Could you post up pictures and a video of that by any chance - Idle, light and full throttle drive by's, please??? I'm in the market for this set up. I would like to know how these two brands sound when paired together. It's either this or a custom set up, for me.

On a side note...IF I go about my own 3" TBE - is a resonator REALLY necessary or will a muffler suffice??? I want to avoid a raspy exhaust note.

Anyone, please???

Hey! Sure as shit! Haha. I'm exhausted and looked right past the fact that your a wisconsin guy..sorry. I was just up in Wausau like 2 weeks ago, so you're about 3 hours away from me. About your exhaust, yes I would really like to hear what it sounds like! I'm open to different ideas and options. I have a HUGE project on my hands right now and the deadline I've set for myself is July 1st. It would be great to get this modification decided upon and DONE! Let me know when you get your car up and running.:thumb:

What kind of project you got going for yourself? Are you trying to make it for DropFest or something? I was there last year and man we needed more DSM's..
I was taking my tranny apart to swap belhousings and I screwed my intermediate shaft up by accident.. Lets just say I learned my lesson, and its costing me some money..
On a side note to get back on topic, my Apexi sounded sweet with stock DP and 14b turbo, and when I decided to get my bellhousing switched because of a huge gaping crack in it:toobad:, I decided to put my Megan DP on.. But I cant start her till I get the tranny back in it??

To make a long story short, I've stripped the car down to a wiring harness and a steering wheel because I got ripped off on the sale of the car. It wasn't what it was advertised to be, and it broke down IMMEDIATELY - we're talking 170 total miles immediately. I didn't even take the car into boost! Needless to say, the whole situation was ### and now I'm conducting an entire rebuild/clean-up from the ground up. I want it ready to go for HIN and, if I can make it, Import Alliance. Although, Drop Fest would be sweet! When is it? And I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. That sucks! I know all about it costing some money..haha.

just to double check ... i looked at pictures for this set up and it seems like it would work since the megan downpipe is a 2 bolt flange and the catback for the thermal starts off wit a 2 bolt flange as well then switches it up to 3 bolt at the muffler flange... please verify XD

If I remember correctly I had to cut off my thermal flange and have it rotated to fit with the megan downpipe (but that was a few years ago since I did that). Yes, the thermal does have a 3 bolt at the muffler flange.

Trust me you will be more than happy with the thermal exhaust! It produces a nice tone at idle and sounds awesome at higher RPM.
