Okay heres the deal I have been looking for a logger and Evoscan looks like what I want. My question is can i just use a generic OBD II cable? Or do I have to buy the "Limitless Designs - OpenPort 1.3U" cable?
The deal is I have a OBDLink Scan Tool from scantool.net. I dont want to have to buy a $100 cable if I dont have to.
The specs on the OBDII cable I have are:
•USB interface
•Baud rates from 9600 up to 2M baud
•Supports all legislated OBD protocols:
◦ISO15765-4 (CAN)
◦ISO14230-4 (Keyword Protocol 2000)
◦ISO9141-2 (Asian, European, Chrysler vehicles)
◦J1850 VPW (GM vehicles)
◦J1850 PWM (Ford vehicles)
•Compatible with more diagnostic software than any other scan tool
•Extended command set allows the tool to perform enhanced diagnostics not possible with ELM327-based scan tools

So can I just order the Evoscan software and use my cable to run it?

Yea so I just downloaded it and tried to use it, It didnt work at all.
It doesnt even recognize my cable.
In the task bar com options it specifically says that "com" nor "ELM" devices work.
Only "openport" or "tactrix" devices will communicate as they are capable of faster speeds.
Ohwell.
So I am looking at this Tactrix Openport 2.0 Flash Cable for 1998/99 Flash ECU's from dsmchips.com.
This will work with Evoscan right? I just want to make sure.

Yea I saw that after I bought the Evoscan software for $25.00.
I would have gone that route if I saw that option first.
I figure I could be future proof if I buy the Tactrix Openport 2.0 for reprogramming the ECU.
Ofcouse I would not be flashing my ECU anytime soon. But I would have the option to do so later if I wanted to down the road.
