hey, im thinking about buying an Evo8. do you guys think that its worth the extra money or should i just get a nice looking GSX. what does the evo have that the gsx does not? i know the turbo is bigger, but what about the tranny, is it stronger then the 2g tranny? or how about the crank. if im going to have to deal with a walking crank, id rather it happen in a gsx then in a 30,000 evo. please list anything youi can think of and your opinions on what i should do.

No it wont be a high 11. If you dont own one dont comment because you have no idea what you're talking about. it takes far more than that for the cobra to run 11's. Also ford mustang trannies are weak.

if i were to get an evo id get an rs really who needs a radio and ac. :thumb:

Eliminator: you have no idea what you are talking about. We dont need to own a 03 cobra to be able to read/ do some research.
If you look this guy is running 450whp and still has the factory t56 in place. 03 cobras are known to get 11hp from just taking the the silencer out of the intake.

straight from MMFF:
"The racing public has latched onto the '03 SVT Mustang Cobra like a Tiger Oscar who hasn't eaten a decent meal in weeks, just shredding through the water hoping to find that appealing lure bobbling in front of him. With an advertised and conservative 390hp rating and an Eaton M112 Roots-style supercharger hiding under its innocent factory hood, the new Cobra is the true musclecar of the future.

For you trivia buffs, minor bolt-ons can put this beast into the 11-second zone with ease and some '03s have already dipped into the 9-second range with factory long-blocks and independent rears."

do some research.

i've seen cobras run high 11's with chip/pulley/exhaust at the track

my friend with a red evo8 who runs mid 11's can't even touch a stock cobra on top end.

the evo has upgraded turbocharger, hks 272/272 cams, full exhaust, etc.

hello? can we stick to the topic i started?

i know a lot of you guys on here are 1/4 freaks, but i like a car that handles great and has some power to it. so something like a cobra dosnt apply.

my 3 main options are:

1. keep the car i have and swap a 3sgte tubo motor. major drawback: fwd

2. trade my car for a 2g gsx and mod it up. major drawback : crankwalk, maby be forced to do an engine swap any way.

3. get out of the box power and awd from the EVO8. major drawback: price

also, if anyone here has a GST, id like to hear your input on what a high hp car is like in a fwd drivetrain.

I was facing this decision for a while too, price vs performance. Basically I had about 7 cars to choose from all with their own problems but all had the basic idea, turbo AWD. Here's what I was looking at: 1G AWD Eagle/GSX, 2g AWD Eage/GSX, RT Stealth, VR4, Audi S4, EVO, or STI. As far as the EVO vs the GSX, I believe that the EVO is a better performing car, but the GSX has the better looks (coupe vs sedan especially). I ended up going with a 2g GSX mainly because it was a more affordable price and I had to include prices of modifying later on. I would have rather gotten an EVO or STI, however original price is a killer for me at age 22. Also I plan on modifying the car so any warranty would be useless to me if anything were to go wrong, something to think about.

i wanted a white evo8 at first.. it was new, cheaper insurance then my gsx, and it had a lot of power from the factory. I also liked the STI in white w/ bronze wheels, but it was very hard to get. So it was the evo8 i was looking at.. but then i noticed a white gsx for sale on rt 18 by englishtown and i pulled in to look at.. i had the price dropped down 2g's - and i bought it the same week.

I never regret getting my 97 GSX.. it happened to be in white too! The style is a little old, but it still looks nice - and the chics dig it
