LOL, so today i was on my way to import powerhouse (to get new plugs wires and fuel injectors for my gst) driving my 240sx and i get pulled over (what i thought was for speeding or something not stupid)

officer; do you know why i pulled you over?
me; because you wanted to look at my car?
officer; Your exhaust is illegal.
me; I have all the reciepts for it at home i assure you nothing is illegal.
officer; no your exhaust exceeds the decible limit and is to loud to be "street legal"
me; :confused:huh to loud (as a bunch of riced out coffee can exhaust civics fly by).. what are you talking about. (full 3'in hks exhaust)
officer; you need to get that replaced with one that is quiter..(hands me a ticket for 150$)

so befor he left i reved up my engine and shot a couple flames at him!:thumb:
wtf to loud of exhaust i have never herd of that shit till today i think it is rediculas. anyone else got pulled over or a ticket for "to loud" of an exhaust?

ive never been pulled over for it but ive heard of some cops being dicks when they bust people gathered somewhere and giving tickets if it was too loud but it was usually the riced out hondas. thats one thing i love about the dsms, even my car with no muffler on it doesnt sound bad at all and no matter what you do to them they dont get that high pitched shriek the hondas put out :notgood:

I have a few times. Some cops don't care. But I'm surprised that its illegal in AZ.

I drive my n/t eclipse everywhere, its straight pipe from header back. very loud. it even went thru maryland emmisions inspection like that no problems. but when i get pulled over the cops have plenty of fun, guess they let the noise slide.

Got pulled over - not because it was too loud - but because it was aftermarket.

That's right. My 17 year old car as the factory exhuast in New England weather.

I ended up driving my 99 gs over to the station (which does have the stock exhaust) to ask them if something was wrong with that as well. They thought it was a little too loud WTF and the chrome cover over the exhaust tip was illegal because it wasn't factory equipment.

Depends where you are, they can be real winners. :toobad:

Get used to it, happens all the time. Last time I got pulled over for exhaust the cop wanted to search my vehicle cause he has had reports of people running drugs in cars like mine:rolleyes:

I remember I was driving my Mustang around, 3" open downpipe (was waiting for a few bends to show up before I could finish my exhaust). There was a Supra in front of me, 3 inch turboback, me open downpipe, and a 240sx behind me with a 2.5 inch axleback. Guess who got pulled over? 240! He ended up getting towed for not having an insurance card with him (even though he had insurance on it).

Never let them search your car, stay there for an hour, let the dog go around the car, I don't care. When they do search your car they will let the dog go inside the car, scrap everything up with his claws, shed, and dig around. Really, they have no respect for the car when they go inside of it and they will trash it to find ANYTHING if they have to.

As long as everything is in order (licence, reg, insurance, tags, no tint) they can't tow it.

Why are you running a straight pipe?

Because its really loud, an Iam not gonna spend money putting exhaust on a non turbo. O an gas mileage increased.

I have been given 4 fix-it tickets for my exhaust being to loud. But I know a guy with a completely stock DSM that is almost identical to mine and we just switch the plates, and take the quite factory exhaust DSM to the police station and they write off the ticket. But I also always drive my car under 3500 RPM daily while accelerating very slowly. Cops still think my car is very loud, they should hear it when I am in higher RPM's and there is load on the engine.

yeah im screwd though i sold my stock exhaust and my new one is welded on. My car sounds nice.:) not evan close to ricer.:notgood: it would kill my eclipse any day. (as of right now) but eh cops are dousche's.

I had full apex-i n1 exhaust on my car. I got a a fix-it ticket, but when i ran it through inspection it passed with flying colors. This was without a cat :shhh:

Ever think that maybe some of you deserve these tickets?

That or a smack in the back of the head.
I have 3" down pipe to a 2 1/2 inch exhaust and no cat and havent been bothered. If you quit taking off from the stop light like your leaving the pit box in a nascar race you wouldnt have that problem.

There was no dog involved, just him believe me I was looking over his shoulder.

You don't have to give consent to search. He probably asked you "You don't mind if I take a look in your vehicle? Do you?" that's him asking for consent and of course you don't have anything to hide so you said "Ok officer" when you could have said "I don't consent to any searches" As long as he doesn't have probable cause to search. You are protected by Fourth Amendment which protects you from unreasonable searches and seizures. Therefore if you truly have nothing to hide or even if you do but you don't give the officer probable cause you can deny him the search. If he does suspect something then he can call a judge and get a warrant to search but most of the time they won't go that far. If they ever ask you to step out of the vehicle. Do just that. Step out of the vehicle, roll your windows up and lock the doors to the car. They did not ask anything about your car and being able to search it.

Hope this helps other people in the future.

Not to encourage law breaking of any kind (if you do it you deserve to get caught) but you should really never tell an officer anything definite unless you absolutely have to. The easiest way to avoid answering a direct question is to ask a question in return, as long as you continue asking questions you should (theoretically) be all in the clear but keep in mind that if the cop has a mean streak in him its his word against yours.

That said, if the cop says that he feels threatened during the encounter he can actually search anything in order to secure the scene for the safety of everyone involved. Always roll your windows up and lock your doors when you step out of the car, always show your hands and don't bend down in your seat. You can even give the officer your keys, you might feel like this makes it easier for him to search but in fact the opposite is true since at that point he is in control of the car which makes it not dangerous. The problem in this case is that a 3000lbs projectile is always considered as being a potential dangerous weapon and as a place to conceal a weapon.

Probably not something you should say on a public forum.
But whatever floats your boat.

to the OP, i kind of doubt you revved up and shot out flames at the cop and left after he gave you a ticket...if you would have really done that, my guess is he would have pulled up over again.
Im calling BS.

Must of did the ole anti lag LOL

I also have a straight pipe from downpipe to my muffler, and my car is definatly not loud at all.. One thing you can do to make sure your car is in the decibal limit is to run to radio shack and buy a decibal meter.. Hold your car at I beleive it's 2500 or 3000 rpms and have a buddy test the sound limit. Check your local laws and find out what the limit is. Take your car to the police station and show them your obviously not breaking any laws. I have a buddy from phenix with a panda CRX (non ricer) and his car is really freakin loud and has nver been pulled over for it.. Also I've been under the influence that a N/A car will be noticably louder than a boosted car, is there any truth to this???

I did get pulled over a couple of times because of my exhaust but all they give me is a warning note not a ticket. It is definitely illegal though is just that some cop let is slide by but still I have a APEXXI 3.5" exhaust system with a 3A Racing muffler I just love how it sounds
