Im doing a research paper on EpROM's for DSMs, and I just need some quotes on what people think of DSMLink and DSMchips, etc...... like how much has it helped tuning. thanks!

Umm i have version 2.5 and NLTS PWNS your face... also my 2 step has cut down on my 60ft times like no other building 10psi off the line with a 5spd hehe... This is the best tuning program for the money... Take for example if you haven used a computer before to tune a car and you go ahead and buy the Aem EMS plus all of the Sensors that will put you back 2000+ dollars not to mention the time you will need on a dyno to get your base lines in, you will be bombarded with so much fuzzy logic 90 percent of the street tuners will either sell their car or give up.... Ive found that Dsmlink along with a PLX wideband is the ultimate setup and can match tune within 5hp of most aem ems tuned cars... If you know how to build the hubble space telescope then by all means get the Aem but if you want a Fast realistic street car without nasa knocking at your door then Dsmlink is the way to go!!! ... :thumb:

I run my GSX with a 95 EPROM ECU and the following parameters:

KeyDiver Stage III
No airflow cap
Fuel cut eliminated
Knock sum boost gauge
950 RPM Idle
550cc Injector Compensation (180 deadtime)
Octane reset
7500 RPM Rev Limit

I don't like AFC's as a sole tuning device simply because they can advance timing too much in the process of faking out the ECU regarding incoming airflow. I also agree with TurboMonkey that standalones are a pain to tune and dial in. My current setup runs the stock timing advance at a maximum of 16 degrees at 6000 RPM and above which affords me the opportunity to run 19 psi on pump gas and 21-22 on high octane without inducing knock (on the stock SMIC). It's a very simple and effective setup and I'm the kind of person who appreciates simple approaches to tuning. If anything, the motor runs slightly rich on the top end and I would rather sacrifice a bit of horsepower than run on the ragged edge and detonate.

In the next few months, I may upgrade to DSMLink with larger injectors and ARP headstuds so that I can run 24 psi or so on an upgraded sidemount, but that's definitely for the future.

Great question and I hope this helps with your paper,

Andy

I have an old G-Force re-engineered '95 chip. 850 idle, redline bumped to 8000rpms. Problem is that I have to shift at 7000 anyways as my timing is so high from 7000-8000 that my EGT's go through the roof in the higher gears. Still useful for overrun on the autox course, but useless at the drag strip and road course.

I have DSMLink and love it. It's the only tuning tool I've ever used, though, so I can't really compare it to anything else. I like that you can have separate profiles stored on your laptop/palm for pump/street, race gas, etc. and just switch among them whenever you want.
