Lethbridge,
Hey guys...

I dont usually post on this site, I use some others and it is hard to keep up, but I really need some help...

I am just pasting the following thread from my friend who is helping me with my swap. Please help me out on this one

I am doing a 4G63 engine swap for a friend now in his 94 Talon Tsi FWD and I found him a 4G63 AWD from japan and I ran into a problem. The problem is that the flyweeels are diffrent in size. I was going to swap them over and just use the USDM one but the crank bolt pattern is different. The JDM one has 6 bolts and the USDM one has 7. I didnt realize this till I finished the swap and realized that the starter wont mesh with the flywheel. The USDM tranie is a FWD and wont work with the JDM engine. I was wondering if you can get a 6 bolt flywheel that is the same size as the USDM which is 7 bolts and larger in diameter which is 11 1/8 on the teeth. Any help will be awsome. Or if I cant get that flywheel can I just use the AWD tranie and just not use the transfer case so I will just use it as FWD?

It has been nearly 5 months since I have drove my car and now this was the first time it was gonna be started up, but an issue arrises again...Please let me know what I can do.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate it!

Alex

It has nothing to do with JDM and USDM, they both have the same flywheels, the difference here is that there are two different motors, the 6-bolt motor is from a 90-early 92 car, a 7-bolt motor is for a late92-94 car, so first of all, you have the wrong motor for this car. HOWEVER, the 6-bolt engine is MUCH better and you can swap it into a car with a 7bolt motor relatively easily. You only need to make a few small changes.

Search on the forums about it.

Sounds to me like you got a 6 bolt awd motor from japan to put into a 7 bolt fwd. You'll need to get a 6 bolt fwd flywheel for your buddy and then everything will work out just fine. The problem isn't in the fact that they're different motors, but that one's a fwd and the other an awd.

Exactly. Good time to upgrade to one of those light-weight flywheels too! :thumb: I made the same mistake when my friend and I bolted up my 6bolt.

so, all i need is a 6 bolt fwd flywheel? not a big deal then is it? any suggestions as to where to get one?

thanks
alex

Well you can pick up an aftermarket one from many of the vendors on this site. ACT and Fidanza are the most common upgraded flywheels. I have an ACT Streelite and I love it. The other option would be to just pick up a used one from the classifieds here or www.dsmtrader.com. Either way will work depending on your budget.

what is your suggestion? i really dont have any money for this seeing as it was kind of unexpected.
