Ok so I have a 95 Tsi Awd.. A few months ago my engine crankwalked... I finally have all the money to get it replaced so I went to road race engineering to talk engine options.. So heres my problem.. The first engine they told me about was a 6bolt w/7bolt head, eagle rods, weisco pistons, and Hks 264/272 combo.. + all the goodies.. That setup was right about $7,000 give or take... So a few days later I took $4,000 out of the bank and went to go put a deposit on the motor... Well when I got there they said if I really wanted to make power I should go with a 6bolt w/7bolt head, Stroked to a 2.4 with eagle rods, weisco pistons, and hks 272's setup + 1mm oversized valves and a mild port to the head... that setup was going to run me around $9,000 I told them that was way more than I expected to spend.. But I kinda like the setup..
So heres my question... Should I just be happy with a 2.0 motor.. I mean.. That is what I wanted in the beginning... and it will still be a beast.. not a raped ape beast... but whatever... I kinda think $7,000 is too much to spend so you can imagine how i feel about $9,000.. But I know it's play big or go home... and I am going to one of the best shops on the west coast... by the way... I plan on a 50 trim with dsm link... and I already have a upgraded act clutch and lightened flywheel... Oh and if you have any other setups you think I should look into let me know... Cant hurt... Thanks in advance...

P.S. This is strictly a weekend car that might get 4,000 or 5,000 miles a year if I'm lucky...

Both setups are gross overkill for a 50 trim. You could probably get a stock rebuilt 6 bolt at a normal machine shop for half of what you would pay RRE and that will last you for all the power a 50 trim can make. Then you'll have all that money left over for supporting parts (like cams and valvetrain).

Ohhh... I forgot to mention... I have a 400ish whp goal.. and I want to do it on pump gas.. the california 91 octane junk... no water/meth injection... Dont ask me why I have this goal... :beatentodeath: and btw.. Its not the money issue thats killing me... I just have to wonder why I need a such a Monster... Do you think I'll regret not going big on my dream project car when I have the chance??? I think I might.....

No need to overkill or pay RRE's insane prices. 400hp is doable on stock 100,000 mile motors, people do it all the time. A stock 0 mile motor will do it without trying.

But, if it's your dream build, then go big. But by all means, don't pay RRE $7,000 for anything when you can buy the parts yourself and have it assembled for <$4,000.

I agree with ^ ^ ^.

You don't need to pay the premium that shops charge. You can build yourself a monster for right around $4000. I know because I am assembling mine as we speak.

It cost me right around $4000 and I'm expecting 450-475whp on C16, and a little over 400 on pump gas.

You save yourself so much money by doing it yourself, and as long as you take your time and do everything right, you'll end up with a beast.

Anyone in SoCal want to help me build a monster?? I must admit I'm a little gun shy about the idea of building a motor from scratch...

you can do a lot more with that money... if you do it smart and put some of your own blood and sweat into the project you can easily get 400whp at 1/2 the price.
