I need a set of higher quality motor mounts. Ive looked around and all I can find are the urethane insert type, I need a stronger mount. Has anyone been able to find anything?

I put my solid front mount in about 6 months ago and am very happy with the results, 95% less play and a 25% improvment over the poly insert. I think it was the best "bolt on" n/a I could of ever done. Yeah theres a little vibration but the benefits are far greater. Alot of others on this topic agree. LOL and the best part it takes 5 minutes

A very respected member from the other forum I belong to makes the solid front mounts 45 shipped (matt) [email protected] and supplies tracking/insurance and I believe he still has about a half dozen left. And not to sway you but I think his quality was alot better than the one I got from howell but hey it works awesome and who really looks at the mounts anyways ;)

You can also try howell for 75+ shipping

If you go on ebay though, howell sells them for 65

And I'm sure theres others but these are the only ones that came to mind.

Shit non of those places has the rear mount. Just the insert!! ROFL
great.... anyone else? Much appreciated!! :rocks:

In all honesty , your front mount is taken 80% of all the "rock" the rear takes about the last 15% the sides are for anti vibration and just a wee bit of motion. Trust me the front solid mount is really all your going to need besides and insert in the back, you will not be un-happy. If you go with zero "give" you will break shit on a constant basis( like the old saying"somethings got to give").

on the rear mount all I did was use the prothane one, but before I placed the insert in the stock mount I filled the stock mount with 3M windowweld. then using a few 2x4 wrapped in saran wrap, placed the entire assy ina big C clamp (or a vise) and let it cure for a few days (I bought a new mount from Mitsu so I could still drive with the torn orignal in the car). After I was sure it was dried I removed the clamp. tore the saran wrap off. Used a dremel to clean it all up nice and pretty and tossed it in. (I did the same thing to the front as well). They are plenty solid for me. even when I am doing a burn out like the one I'm doing below, I had 0 hop.

I do agree the mounts are awesome upgrade for FWDs and they are fairly cheap compared to what it cost when something breaks.

I found two big washers off a big truck (kenworth) they are cab mount washers . I found that they fit inside the mount itself with alittle pursuasin(?) > I stuck them in a vise and welded the washers to the mount body it was about as sold as it gets! :dsm:

The poly motor mounts should be MORE than sufficient for you. They are for me anyhow, but everybody IS different. Just couple the poly motor mounts with a good, healthy suspension and you wont have any FWD wheel hop.

It's not the hop so much as its a good replacement. I guess I can just call Mitsu up and replace the rear and put the poly inserts in. The front however I would like a better upgrade. Like I said, I bent the rear mount when shit came loose. My car has 150k so I'm sure suspension bushings are needed like something fierce.... WTF

that is actually my winter upgrade, since my car no longer has a heater core, blower, or anything really. It has to sit all winter so I figure I am going to upgrade my suspension, and the prothane bushing kit is in my garage waiting for the day it see jackstands again.

I was thinking about doing my whole motor but after reading this im thinking maybe just the front and rear. My motor is producing a crazy amount of torque and hp and last weekend when i had the boost up to 26 again it twisted the motor up so much that the timing belt rubbed on my strut bar!!! So much fun making gobs of power but something that I didn't think would have happened.

iv had prothane solid urathane pieces in a few of my cars, and in my opinion they are more then good enough for most set ups. with them installed your engine feel very solidly mounted, with very little give in any direction. and although iv only owned awd, we put a full set(front, rear, and both sides) in my friends 96 tsi fwd, which i drive on a regular basis, and they are great in that too.

i had the prothane mounts in my 91 for a year, and that engine and the mounts are now in a 90, and in that year and a half iv never had a problem with them. the same ones have been in the 96 fwd turbo for almost 2 years, and do wonders to help wheelhop, and have yet to cause any problems aside from the vibration inside the cabin. in the fwd the glove box is a little lose and vibrates fairly loudly, in my 91 awd you could sometimes hear the change vibrating in the ash tray at idle.
i would imagine with some agressive cams the vibration would be alot worse, i havent installed urathane mounts in my 92 laser awd yet, and its the only one of my awd that had aftermarket cams. but i agree that the front and rear mount take just about all of the load of the engine, and if you only installed the front and rear is would probally help reduce the vibrations a good bit.

DO you guys think this is a worth while Mod on an awd car. I mean I don't see this on many fast guys list of mods but I have seen my previous cars with a lot less hp then my talon is gonna bed makin lift the engine a little. I can get a full set inserts on ebay or something for like 75. Is solid the way to go thought. I just don't want to rip a mount and be screwed. By the way i'm going for 500awhp.

I just made 417awhp / 321awtq and I have to put these in my car because the motor twists up so much that my timing belt hit my strut bar and nearly shredded it. Yes, I dont have a cover on it but still, if it is moving that much I'm not about to let it keep doing that and risk breaking something else. This happened the other day when I set up my AEM launch control to 9psi and was out on the street at 26.5psi. Just my $0.02 wish I did this before so I wouldn't have to buy another power enterprises belt (not cheap) in addition to the mounts...
