Hey so i have 1998 mitsubishi eclipse GS Spyder. The car has a 6-bolt GST swap in it. Im not sure on the year of the motor. I was looking to do engine management for it so that i can tune the car. I was talking to somebody and they said i can't do engine management because the motor doesn't match the obd2 port or something. So basically i'm looking for advice on how to get fuel managment or tuning programs for it.

Tuning software have you looked into dsm link, plug it in, its for 2gs, and 1gs a wide variety of tuning parameters. If its a 6 bolt its 1g, doesnt matter with the port, link plugs right into your connector. I havent used any other tuning devices, but there are others out there.

Check the ECU. If it is a metal box DSMlink is cheaper. If it's a black plastic box Openport 2.0, ECUFlash, Ceddy Mod, and Evoscan is cheaper. Both are excellent routes.

Openport 2.0 + Flash Connector:

ECUFlash:

Ceddy Mod:

Evo Scan:

And of course a Boost Gauge and WIDEBAND Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge (I'd recommend AEM or LC1)

Edit: Never thought, but if you stick with lower sized injectors you can use SAFC II / MAFT to tune with but it's limited. I'd recommend saving up for something better. You'll more then likely want to go bigger.

The ECU is also located below the stereo. Pull off the drivers side kick panel (2 screws) and you should be able to see the connectors and box itself.

The ODBII (16 Pin) connector is under the drivers side dash along with the flash connector.

If you have any other questions feel free to post or pm me.

If I missed anything someone else can chime in.

Well you have some options and some reading to do, so you can figure out what will work best for you, line is also available in lite so you can always upgrade later,if cost is an issue. Eliminate the maft ( if you had one) which i did, the ability to check codes, run any injector, log wideband and so on.

It isn't going to have anything 420a in it, it is a gs spyder which only came with the 2.0 turbo and 2.4 4g64 non turbo.

ECUflash and Evoscan are cheaper than DSMlink. If you dont have a black box ecu, you can get one cheaper than an eprom.

To a certain extent. It has like one knob for lower load, one for medium, and one for wot. Can't really adjust much in between.

In order to do that would i need to remove the gm maf, and put the stock one back on? And would i be better off doing that?

Ok i got my translator cheap whole kit, the only reason i got rid of my 1g stock mas, do you want to run link or your translator is the question. You can run link with any mas doesnt matter.

How do I know what is going to work for me? Can I use any of them? I am just looking for a simple tune. My car runs terrible right now and I am just looking for a tune. If i use an safc or neo install it and take it somewhere to get tunned?

Ok, I have actually been doing some research on Evoscan, but I can't seem to get ahold of any of them. But I am just wondering if it going to work on my car. Its a 1998 mitsubishi eclipse GS, with a 6-bolt gst swap into it. I don't know what year the swap is from, but the 6-bolts were made in 1990-92 if im correct. Looking for help. Thanks.

Doesnt matter the year, whats on the car, injectors , turbo wha is it doing, maybe you should take it to a mechanic before you buy tuning things any of those will work i never used any except for link. , figure out how its running, too vauge your car is running like crap. safc never used it.

its running 550s, small 16g, stock boost, fmic, its bored out, forged pistons, and i my air fuel says im running rich. I think my timing might be off, ive done it a few times.

Did you go thru the initial setup on the translator and set it for 550's correctly? If not than of coarse it is going to run rich.

You mean your wideband what numbers are you getting to know your running rich, that narrow band wont do anything but blink. which tuning device do you like above from reading them, i would read them again, and pick one like i said before, pick one. Look at costs what you need and so on thats how you figure out what you can get and get those items and go from there. You gotta start somewhere to tune we all picked a device some of us and began to learn what tuning is about and what to tune for.
