I have a 99 Spyder GS automatic my engine light just came on at 150,000 miles. O'Reilly says it's Bank 1 any ideas what this could be? Is this going to be an O2 sensor? Help guys

I went to the mechanic shop have my cat back exhaust put on and my catalytic converter replaced cost a lot of money, but he says my bank 1 sensor 1 sensor has to be replaced. My car is chugging and choking when it idles too long any ideas what's going on is this oxygen sensor doing it?

Yes bank 1 sensor 1 is the front O2 sensor which controls mixture.
Put that sensor being bad make my car choke not want to run right when it's idling. It started talking and acting like that when I drove it in the driveway tonight I'm afraid what's going on with it. I saw all these sensors on eBay but I can't figure out which one it is the mechanic just said bank 1 sensor 1

That's sensor will cause your car not to sense air/fuel ratio right causing your car to run rough if it isn't reading correctly. I would recommend purchasing a sensor from a vendor to support the community instead of eBay.

I'm going to have that O2 sensor replaced tomorrow I was told my map sensor may be bad. Today I was driving my car on the highway and it started shaking real bad underneath the car and almost broke down on me. It starts chugging and sounded real rough like it's going to die on the street. It's very upsetting I don't know what's wrong with my car I'm going to start with the O2 and see what happens. This mechanic is trying to say my map sensor might be bad. Any ideas or any more advice let me know thanks guys

The mass air flow sensor or MAF on these cars measures the incoming air to provide the appropriate fuel ratio. It could be a very common culprit to cause that. If you had a code for the O2 sensor I would definitely start there. These cars also have a barometric pressure sensor in the MAF too. (Someone correct me if I am wrong about that). If the O2 sensor doesn't fix it, recheck for codes and list them here. Will try to decipher best as I can. Good luck hope it gets solved.

Well after my new exhaust and new Catalytic converter putting on the car I didn't have the money to do the O2, I haven't done it yet. My gas mileage seems to be ok and my car seems to be running good. Sometimes when it's idling it acts like it's going to run rough. My engine light is still on. According to my mechanic there's no O2 sensor on my Catalytic converter right now, I have to get it put on there. Right now I'm just running the car the way it is until I have money to put into it.

Hello and welcome.
Your front o2 , bank 1 sensor is used by the car mostly during idle, and low moderate driving, which is why you notice it only during " idle"

Bank 2/ rear o2 sensor ( catalytic converter - sensor) sits towards the end of the exhaust and is mostly un-used and wont cause any noticeable change. So if its not plugged in ignore it for now.

You dont have a MAP sensor, you do have a MDP sensor and i have unplugged mine and seen no real change so for now lets put that on hold.

If you do your own work you will save ALOT of money . Replacing the Front 02 sensor is very do-able at any level of experience.

What ever sensor brand you get, make sure its the one that has the same plug as your old one, dont cheap out and buy a universal.

Lastly many members here have far surpassed the level of many "mechanics" . So many mechanics wont understand the reasoning behind some of our choices. Feel free to ask, we help those who help themselves.

Make sure next time you get those codes written down.

The code O'Reilly pulled was for bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor. The part number you gave me is 13460 BOS. Apparently you are right this is a sensor by my manifold. Probably the reason it's idling rough sometimes but not all the time. If this is the O2 sensor that's bad why did the other mechanic pull the O2 sensor above my catalytic converter off and say it's bad? Ugh.. how hard will it be for me to change these myself because I think I'm going to.

Above ^ means in front/ thus the FRONT o2 Sensor.
Below means behind Thus the REAR o2 Sensor.

You known pictures make a big difference.... they can speak to us perhaps more than you may know.

I dont know anything about your "Mech" or his reasons.

I don't believe i , or any one on this thread has.

Again its not. Feel free to youtube videos of this process.
