Alright this is a weird one. I just put together my 6 bolt setup for the third time. I just got everything together. I start it up, and it starts fine. I haven't drove it anywhere because of this one problem. When I start it up I have the radiator cap off so it get the air out of the system, plus it shows me if I need to put more fluid in it. While the car is on, coolant starts to run out of coolant resevoir drain tube and just keeps coming out, till it looks like there is no fluid left in the coolant pipe that you can look down into beneath where the radiator cap would be. I don't know what this is. Is it overheating? I can't tell. It shouldn't be, but I can't tell because I am either not getting a reading in my guage cluster, or I am just not letting it idle long enough to let it heat up. But still it shouldn't be releasing enough fluid through the system to where it doesn't look like there is fluid left in the coolant elbow where the radiator cap goes. Please, I hope somebody out there can give me some info into what this might be and hopefully it is something simple, i can fix, or something stupid I just didn't do. I have gone through so so so much trouble with this car, and this time I was hoping I did it right. Please read my profile for current mods, in the case that they may help diagnose problem.

What was the reason for the other 2 times? Sometimes you can get an air pocket and the system has to burp itself. This can push coolant out. If you put everything together, I would just keep trying to purge air from the system. If this is not possible, I would do a compression test and see if perhaps one or more cylinders are low and are contributing to this. You can also do a hydrocarbon test. Snap On and Mac and Matco, etc have these usually. If you have exhaust gas (hydrocarbons) in your coolant, the dye will turn from blue to yellow. You can also perhaps borrow or rent a no contact thermometer to verify temperature. Be careful and not get it so hot you damage the head or gasket. Be patient and careful. Post your findings on the tests and if that doesn't help, pm me and I'll try to think of something else.

Good Luck

Where'd you hear this might be a good idea? Top the system at the radiator cap, put a bit more than half in the over flow tank, seal it up and drive. DSMs don't have "air pocket" troubles, and unlike foreign cars, there is no valve on the heater core to block it off.
If you think you need to "burp" the system, squeeze the bottom radiator hose a few times.
It's not needed.

alright sounds like good advice to me. The 2 reasons that i had to do the swap before was the first time the block that i was sold was supposed to have 1 g rods and 2g pistons in it. It did but it had the wrong rod cap on one of the rods, allowing it not to spin. I replaced rod and piston. Got it to start up again and it ran fine, but blew turbo because of oil contamination, i determined that the crank was scratched, which i should have replaced in the first place, and this was causing metal shavings to go into oil from main bearing. So now i have a new block with the wiesco pistons and eagle rods. I'm hoping everything will run well. Now i am dealing with this supposed coolant problem, which i hope isn't a problem at all. It just seems weird that all the coolant seems to come out of the reservoir over flow hose and spew on the ground. Is that because i have the cap off? No, that shouldn't matter though. Maybe i should empty out the overfilled reservoir and start over on it. I'm not sure. I would like to do the compression test now, but its going to be kinda hard with the COP. IS the only other way to do a compression test to rehook up my coilpack and sparkplug wires?

hold on a second here, I may be an idiot. I'm not with my car right now, I am at work, but when I get home, I'm sure I will kick my self in the A$$. I think I have the hose that runs from the reservoir to the head hooked up in the wrong place. As i think of it now, i know it is running to a port below the upper radiator hose. No wonder all the fluid is draining out, the hose is below the fluid line. I probably switched the 2 lines up. That would be a reason that it wouldn't hold the fluid when the car is turned on right?
