If i am taking my stock exhaust off and running a custom cat-back, would i have to get an emissions test? I live in Nebraska. Why do you need to get an emissions test in the first place? Do you NEED to get one? What is needed to pass? What do they look for? Anyhting i can do for little to nothing to "fool" them if i want to run straight through? What do i need to do???

Here's what you do. I don't know what county your in so I couldn't post a usefull link, but if you contact your DOT or County comissioner, they can tell you what all is required for emissions.
Did you have to get emissions testing when you purchased your last tag?
The cat back exhaust is more than likely not going to change your emissions at all. You still have a cat, so you should be fine. Check with your county though and they can tell you allllll the fun requirements. You can probably Google your county and find it even. :thumb:

Here's a link that will surley confuse you and give you too much info....but at least I tried.

Having to get an emissions test depends on the area you live in, not what parts are/aren't on your car. I'm not sure about Nebraska and emissions tests but from a quick search on Google, it looks like they do have tests in Nebraska. The easiest way to find out about emissions test is to ask your mechanic. They'll tell you if you need one, how it'll be done (just visual or more than that), what you need to pass, what they check when they do the test, and probably a lot more than you'd ever want to know.

If you need to get an emissions test, you need a catalyic converter, which is part of your exhaust. You also need the O2 sensor to be in the exhaust (or have a simulator). I can't really help you out as to ways to 'cheat the system' as this is not legal and I have emissions where I live and build my car to pass them. The only hint I could give you is if you have emissions and require a cat in your exhaust, you can put it in just for the test and then replace it with a test pipe (just a straight pipe) the rest of the year. This may free up 1hp or so, depending on your mods. I personally don't think it's worth it.

Hope this helps!

So what does everyone reccomend i do as far as the exhaust? I would like it to be loud but also somewhat legal! i just want the sound and a few extra horses. I was looking at the megan racing N1-style muffler w/ a 2.5" inlet and 4.5" tip. What do yuo think?

I looked online and nebraska doesn't have any smog tests, does this mean that i am in the clear and i can do virtually anything i want? If i take out the o2 sensor, will the check engine light come on? If so, how can i fix this?

How old are you man? Because wow. You do not want to take out your o2, it's vital to engine performance based on the stock ecu maps. It needs to stay. As for catback, there's a lot of options for N/A's. Just don't go over 2.5" or you will start losing performance.

I agree above, ask your mechanic, or parents about emissions testing. My guess is, if you didn't already hear about it you don't need to worry about it. Because if your town did it, you'd probably know about it already.

Otherwise i have no words. Hah.
