I currently had my 97 GST in for inspection and emission. Emission is new to me, I live in Pa. and this is my first emission test. I am having problems and I wanted to list it here incase if anyone else comes across this issue.
I found out from a local mitsubishi dealer that the 96 and 97 mitsubishi's have problems passing emission. The problem lies in the computer. The problem I had was that my battery went dead right before inspection and the memory was wiped clean in the computer. The emission test runs off of 10 different montiors in your computer (gas cap, o2 sensor etc.). With out any memory there I'm sure you can see the problem. I drove the car over 250 miles and it still didn;t store enough memory to pass the test. Another local dealer had to drive an eclipse 1100 miles before the computer was in a state to pass emission.
So if you know you have an emission test coming up shortly, make sure your battery dosen't die.
There is a way to get your computer up to speed, but it's complicated. I got the data from a mitsubishi dealer yesterday. If any one is interested in it, let me know and I'll be glad to email the info to you.
