ok i need some help. Im working on a 97 gsx and as ive been doing stuff I would sometimes hook a battery up to the car to listen to some music. When the battery was hooked up, everything would work, lights, windows, sunroof, wipers, radio, etc. But today i go to hook up the battery and the only thing that turns on is the turbo timer. ok, so i turn the key, i get some lights on the dash, but no radio, windows dont work, lights dont work when i open the door, tail lights dont work, nothing except the turbo timer and the wipers. Whats going on? is there a short somewhere? i dont remember the jumper cables connecting the battery touching anything metal. The battery is also brand new, and works 100%. I looked at a bunch of fuses and everything looks good, so idk whats up. so what can i do to check whats wrong?

what were you working on? mechanical or electrical? its probably a fuse, not sure on a 2g,but 1g has 3near the battery. It's probably a battery or alt fuse, are you getting power to ignition.Power goes to ignition first then to relays,do you have a chitlon or haynes.I'll check back tomorrow to see if you got it fixed.

i wasnt even really working on the car. i was just straightening out my intercooler fins, and painting some random parts that are rusty. And yea im gonna go check those in a little bit. thanks for the help

Sounds like you popped the alternator fuse. It connects part of the electrical system with the battery.

gonna go check and ill get back to you. thanks

edit: where exactly is the alternator fuse? is it closer to the fuse box or alternator? I looked around but couldnt seem to find it.

Please get a copy of the factory manuals so you aren't held up by simple questions you could answer.

You want the electrical one first. You will have to sign up with scribe to download then to your computer.

The Alternator fuse (blue 100A) in in the fuse/relay box under the hood on the passenger side. It's bolted down since it's handling 100A so that a loose connection doesn't burn your car down.

wow haha :ohdamn: for some reason i thought there was a different inline fuse for the alternator. but ill go check the fuse box and look at the fuse.
