i am selling my 98 gsx 5 spd ecu will it work on a auto,or just 5 spd?

On the 1G DSM cars, the ECU doesn't have anything to do with the trany... The Automatic trany is controlled by the TCU (transmission computer unit)...

There's only one problem, the Manual trany cars have an ECU programed for the 450CC stock injectors, while the ECUs of the automatic trany cars are programed for lower capacity injectors... So, that's the difference... the automatic car with the ecu of a manual car, will run leaner....

That's what I can tell you about the 1G DSM cars, for the 2G cars I am not sure :boring:

2g i believe you can just put it in and it will work. As he said about the 1g is right he just went into much more detail then i did.

So then, somewhat related question. I have an ECU from a '90 (91?) GVR4 cyclone auto tranny car lying around. Can I stick that into my 90 TSi? Also, since I put in the JDM auto tranny 4G63, did I inadvertently downgrade my injectors?

EDIT: The injectors are blue tops and I have the JDM wiring harness.

i know you guys are talking about a 2g, but just fyi, the 1g autos come with 390cc injectors, if any of you guys care

we know this. I have an auto. sorry I'm not trying to be a dink but we pretty much went over the injector issue.

as for putting the ecu in the 90 or the other way around its beyond me... i know you have to change something. :|

I was just curious if the JDM GVR4 auto would still have the 390 injectors. That had not been clarified. If it does I guess I'll be upgrading those fairly soon... :sosad: So many other things I should spend my money on first...

Don't worry there buddy. There are some really fast auto's out there. If you ever done a boost launch, its unbelievable.

I changed my turbo and injectors, the only thing now is I need safcll. but the car halls ass, just with those mods.

Actually, my concern is that I am still running a M/T and a M/T ECU. I am worried that I'll be running very lean and could ruin my "new" motor since my car thinks it is using 450cc injectors. My worthless blinky a/f meter says I'm good but as I said, it's worthless. I've been running 15psi on the engine without getting fuel cut except on very hot days. Should I be worried? I don't have an EGT yet but I am running an upgraded fuel pump.

Sorry to go so far off from the original thread.

I know the 2nd gen ecus with the 5spd will work on 95-99 but you have to swap the plug wires since they get the cam signals differently! The part numbers for auto and manual are the same though if that helps :)

Its OK man, its what this site is here for( to answer questions). Just pick some 450's up at a junk yard. I got mine at a local junk yard for $50 bucks. Also do you have a logger? you might want to look into one. The logger is what I'm picking up next, then a safc ll.

In the mean time if I were you I would keep boost at like 12 to 13 psi for now, till you get some bigger injectors.

Have you rewired your fuel pump?

Do you have a differant fuel pump, like a 190lph?

those things you might want to look into, to get rid of that fuel cut. :thumb:

I'll check out the junkyard, thanks. I don't have a logger yet. I wasn't sure if I should spring for a pocket logger or save up until next year and get DSM Link.

I have not rewired the pump. It's on my to-do list. The last owner put in a bigger fuel pump but I have no idea what size it is. All I know is it whines a lot and he didn't put in a pressure regulator.
