Hi Guys,

Just a quick Question, What do I need to do if I want to install a set of Crane 12 cams???

can I Use The OEM valves/Springs or not?

sorry but the search option is not nice with me and is the first time I try to install aftermarket camshafts in a car:confused:

by the way I wanna stay N/A, currently running 4-2-1 Headers, CAI, 60mm Jeep TB, UDP, MSD Coil, and BRK6

best Regards

i believe crane 12 are equiv to crower 2's, and many have ran them with no problems on stock springs retainers, lifters etc. I personally ran crower 2's with stock valve train for about 6 months, but had a strange misfire i coudlnt figure out, ended up going away when i upgraded my springs in retainers. So just some food for thought

Yes you can run them on a stock head, the cranes have a bit of a "softer/smarter" grind and are not as hard on your valvetrain as crower cams are, thats why a LOT of neon guys choose crane over crower. Just some food for thought.

Crane 12 are

CRANE 12's
intake duration: 246
exhaust: 246
gross lift: 364/364
duration @ .050 204/204

I believe they are less aggressive than the Crower Stage 2 but I am not sure about that...

whats the worst case scenario if i install them like this? is there any performance differences with a Titanium Spring and retainer kit?

Yes they are just a bit less aggressive but their ramp rates are not as fast as crower so like I said earlier they are not as hard on your valvetrain. There is no performance difference in running upgraded springs and retainers vs stock, the DO however ALLOW you to run a bigger cam and not as likely to float a valve. Point blank, YES, you can run Crane 12's on a stock head. Will there be any performance gain, small, but yes, now if you get something to tune with you will notice an even bigger gain. The single handed biggest crutch on the 420a is the ECU. Its holds a LOT of power back. Keep in mind the Crane 12 is a "nitrous" grind cam, but perform better boosted than the Crane 14's their "turbo" grind.

I have to agree 100% with the ecu statement, especially with cams. Cams dont seem to come alive till the 4k-4.5k range, if you are running a stock ecu, then you only get to really enjoy them for about 1000rpm before the stock ecu starts pulling timing.

^^Thank you for doing my work Zack^^:thumb:

I would add that I prefer the Crower 2's over the Crane 12's (but I forget you are out of the country so your access may be limited).

As far as running titanium retainers; you will see basically no difference unless you are running real high rpm and trying to get that last little extra power out of the motor. They are just lightening the valve train.

Hi guys

just a little update after removing my timing belt I decided to go for a rebuild and just got a few surprises... like the picture above and a fully scratched crank and dead OEM camshafts, and a destructed clutch disk...

no body knows how my car was still running but he was... and very strong

now i need a lot of $$$

more news later... :(

WOW at that rod warpage...the fact that is was running strong just goes to show you though how tough some of these 420a's can be

Wow....that rod is toast.
Now that you have to rebuild your motor anyway you may want to consider running something other than stock internals, since you have to rebuild anyway.

yes, but unfortunately in my country is not easy to find parts for these cars... by now i think I'm gonna look after others car block place my head on it and then to the car, maybe next year with a little luck I can get some hi comp forged pistons

Lol @ bending rods while still being NA :thumb:

So you got no friends who are in shipping huh?

well i have a virtual address in Miami, so if I ship something to that place and they see my name on the tag, they send it to my house, is a UPS service and in that way I can shop in eBay for example without living in USA :)

I got my crane12's in that way :shhh:

Why? do you have something that you don't need anymore???:hmm:

I WTB AFX Ecu:pray: hahaha

You seriously deserve to win some sort of award for dedication to your DSM...the problems you have overcome with your little 420A would have sent most of our cars to the crusher already. I'm watching this thread to see what the outcome of this is...best of luck!

So, doesn't that open you up to the whole internet market (ie all our 2gnt businesses)?

Yeah, but I'd be too lazy to pack up and ship a 10.5 bottom end :p

Yeah it opens me a door but a very expensive one because of the high international shipping rates,
