So Im knee deep in this upgrade and my smog is coming up soon. I recently moved to an area in Nevada that requires smog. The only problem is my stupid emissions are stuck in not ready mode. they say drive it till it becomes ready but that never works. The stealerships manual say I gotta drive at all these crazy specs at different rpms and temps. That SH!T is next to impossible to follow!
So I was wondering if I could use my DSMlink to fix this or would I have to take the car to SATAN to force the codes into ready state? Also I'm installing a wideband o2 and wiring it into my ecu, Will this throw a check engine light from the different voltage reading from the o2? If so, can I "tune" it out with the DSMlink? Because I'm replaceing the rear o2 will it prevent the cataylist reading from ever going into ready mode. Smog sucks! :notgood:

The laptop version of DSMLink will not allow you to modify your readiness monitors in any way, but the Palm version will. If you can't get them to complete, I suggest trying out the Palm version. I would probably wait until AFTER the inspection to install the wideband. Kinda pointless to install it now when it won't even read accurately since it'll be presumably behind a working catalytic converter.

well, I actually welded an o2 bung before the cat for the wideband and plugged the rear o2( not installed, but welded) Can you only turn this off with the palm version? If so, how do you get the palm version, what handheld do you need to buy to get it to work properly? Will it work with the pc version? Or is the best solution to pay Satan to let me ride for one year at a time?

If everything is working correctly (as in rear O2 still intact) then you could swap the ECU with one out of a 99. That's what I had to do to mine. The 98 ECU I had just wasn't setting them to "Ready" so I got a 99 ECU that actually works like it is supposed to. You don't even have to go through all those weird protocols to have them set as "ready". The car just needed to be driven around for a bit and it was done.

Since it is for smog, make sure you heat that catalytic converter back up a few times REAL hot. If the cat hasn't been used in a while it won't pass. The hotter the cat gets, the better it works (until you blow fire through it and melt it of course).
