I currently have an ecu with dsmlink version 2.5 and it works and everything checks out. My deal is that I need to get a usb cable and I am trying to decide if I should just pay the extra $150 and get version 3 that comes with the cable? I'm only going for close to 300hp since it's a 1g fwd and I want to run E85 so the real question is aside from some nice new features like the click box to get rid of the warm start issues is it worth paying the extra $150 to get version 3 with a cable or should I just get a new cable and run version 2.5, are the new features that manditory for what I'm doing? I'm only going to run a 2g maf and right now I honestly can't justify spending anymore money on it when I can put it towards other mods like getting a 255 wally which I need. Any input would be nice since I can't make up my mind right now.

I don't plan on SD since the 2g maf will flow plenty good enough for the power I'm going for which is 300hp max since this is my daily driver during the summer. I bought this DSMlink 2.5 off a guy in cleveland with the ECU and link for $250 so it was a good deal but the cord was broken and lost so I tryed my palm logger cable and of course that doesnt work so I had a local let me use his cable for an hour to make sure my chip works and it does.

I have a 1g FWD 6bolt and I am keeping the 14b, getting a FMIC in the mail soon, have denso 720's, getting a walbro 255, have AFPR, wideband is hooked up to my link, and I am considering running E85 because it's everywhere here in MN. I'm kinda on the wall on E85 since my denso 720's will only flow like stock injectors on e85 so I'm not sure it would be worth running e85 over 91octane aside from having less knock and more boost. Anyone have opinions on that?

So really 2.5 can do everything I need it to do aside from having direct access tables and I doubt I will ever go bigger since it's a fwd, maybe bigger injectors if I do run E85 if the 720's can't handle it. Do I really need the direct access tables if I'm only shooting for 300hp? The reason I'm asking is because I can get a 1g usb cable of ecm's web site for $55 or I can pay an extra $144 and get v3 which I really need to start saving money for the winter and stop spending it on my damn car, I keep blowing my paychecks.

If you're not looking for any specific features that you know v3 has, and are not looking to spend a lot of money, the v2.5 should be able to do what you need. No, you don't really need the direct access tables, but I do feel they make tuning so much easier and more accurate since you can tune off of the actual engine load at a specific RPM, and not just make one slider adjustment for a specific RPM and all load ranges.

I just started running E85 a few months ago and I love it. If you can afford to sell the injectors and get a bigger set, or possibly trade with someone, then I'd go for it.

If you have the vga to usb adapter and the vga to obd2 adapters you can pick up a printer cable and a vga cable from any electronics store. They are regular computer cables. No more than $25.

So snowboarder if I picked up a set of 950 fic's for my 14b I should be good then? Let say I went on a trip and couldnt find E85, can I switch my maps and lower my boost to run 91octane as lon as I have my laptop on dsmlink version 2.5

Since you are FWD, you can use V3 for the gear dependent boost.

I feel like using the rev limiter under 8mph is enough so that I don't burn em, as long as I get off the line I'll be ok. I assume that I would need an electronic boost sender as well as a clutch wire for this? Maybe in the future, as of right now I just ordered a new usb cable and I'm gonna stick with version 2.5 for this year. I need other stuff more.

About the 950's, you dont think 950's on e85 will get me safely to 300hp on the top end? I'm just trying to add a little horse power while trying to keep everything stock, that is until I blow my motor up of course. I'm just trying to keep it low enough that I don't burn through my motor. The 950's should flow like 636cc injectors and that should be good enough right? Or are you saying it's nice to have alot of overhead so that you are not maxing your injectors? I'm only using a 14b, I will only run a max of 20psi or so once in a while otherwise it will be around 16psi, and i'm not going bigger because my car is FWD.

You can use this to kind of judge what airflow your injectors will support. Keep in mind these injector sizes are using 93 octane as the base fuel.

Yes, I suggested bigger injectors so that you don't risk running your 950's above 80-85%, which is the ideal upper limit. I believe the 14b can flow close to what a small 16g can do, in which I've pushed my small 16g to slightly over 40 lbs/min before. Usually on average it runs about 35-38 lbs/min. The upper limit of my average is 80% of 650cc injectors. On my 1150's and E85 at that airflow I'm running IDC's in the upper 50's.
