When i launch in first, especialy when i get on it, there is a soft and solid THUMP noise from under the car twords the rear. When i get on it realy hard the thump increases accordingly. it doesn't sound like metal hitting mettal. it happens in the other gears (except reverse) but not as noticable. Could it be the drivesahft carrier berrings? Any info would be helpfull.

I have the same mystery thump too. I am getting my centre supports replaced this week, I'll let you know how it gos for me.

Keep after it, it'll tell you what it was soon enough.

"Why are DSMs so unreliable?"

on WWW.machv.com they have driveshaft carrier berrings for 76 each and it describes the thump that i am hearing. you guys should check it out. the berring is in oem\maintanance.

If you get a thump that keeps on thumping as the revs climb, then try this fix www.plymouthlaser.com/shaft.htm
www.geocities.com/qwik93awd/VFAQ/rearendthumpfix.htm
It worked for my car, and it only cost $3.99 + tax.
I found both of those links listed on the VFAQ.com website

If you get a single thump when you step on the gas, and a single thump when you get off the gas, then you could have bad motor mounts or a lot of freeplay in the rear diff or transfer case.

I had the same thumbing noise, and what it is, that since our driveshafts are split into parts, they have boots, with time the boots become worn and dont work as well, but you cant replace them, so what i did was take silcone, and put it all the around the boot, when you remove you driveshaft you will see that theres an area perfect for putting the stuff into, if you let it sit over night and harden this will take care of your problem, it did for me at less
