Just picked up my 96 GST last weekend. Has a 16g, FMIC kit, nology wires, vented BOV(need to recirculate that btw)and a few other little tid bits.
Heres my problem though, i drove the car home and it ran fine. Over the last few days thouhg it has developed or finally showing me its bad side. It has been really cold lately dipping into the single digits here overnight. Couple days ago I went to start the car and it wouldnt start. So I left it sit for a couple hours and it started fine. The only thing is that until it warmed up really good the car wouldn't rev past 2500 and felt like it was REALLY low on power. Went to autozone and got it scanned and revealed that there was a circut malfunction with the MAF sensor which I assume is because of the vented BOV.
Now over the last few days the car has worsened and wont even really let me drive it. When cold the car runs like before, and now when it warms up it gets worse. Now, when warm the car will idle fine for a second and then try to die, then idle fine for a bit. If i give it any gas abruptly, it will kill or rev and then want to die. I try to move and any load makes her want to kill. To me it seems like a huge missfire is going on. Pulled a few plugs and they were pretty black, but not horrible.
Was tooling around when I got home and noticed a very small one pin connector that was unplugged behind the FPR area.
Now where does this go? A DSM guru friend of mine looked the car over and told me to get rid of the wires and change the plugs for sure and said the plug may be for the coil to help relieve built up voltage or something?
Looking for anywhere to look at or areas to go to to fix this dam car.

car has what looks to be some ebay type rs BOV. gotta recirculate it, and hopefully just replace it with a 1g soon.
also, i noticed that the car drives fine now when you first start it(besides the missfine at 2k rpm)
but, when the car warms up enough to go into closed loop it starts to really act up.

If you have a MAF circuit code then you need to take care of that first. What was the code number and I can help guide you through the procedure. There is no reason throwing parts at it, when you haven't fixed the major problem. Granted new plugs are always a good idea but you need to take care of the MAF situation first. It reads more than just airflow, it does temp. as well and that will affect how it runs.

So just a little update on what if finding. Now I havn't had a lot of time to tool around with her and its been in the single digits, so I don't really want to be outside for long right now.
Anyways, pulled the MAF sensor. Noticed that the connector had a lot of blue corrosion on bothe sides of the harness. Also, the sensor has a lot of oil residue covering it. Took off the turbo intake pipe and noticed way tucked under a little soleniod type thing with 2 nipples comming off of it for what looks like a vacuum hose. It had a connector plugged into it, but no vacuum lines to it? Its a very small little thing, black. Has I think a 2 wire connector running into it. I'm wondering what this is and what the hell is it supposed to be hooked up to? Looks kinda like a plastic MBC but with no knob to adjust it? Also, there is a vacuum line of some sort running off that intake pipe almost right after the maf that isn't going anywhere? Just sucking in unmetered air?

The sensor is a Boost Control Solenoid. It's not needed if you have a MBC. The vacuum line needs to be connected to something though or plugged. Clean the corrosion really good and get back to us. You can also clean the resistor in the MAF sensor as well.

Ok, I will have to clean the connector when I get home. I don't have a MBC on it right now. I'm looking to get one, but the kid has the wastegate hooked directly to the J-pipe fitting? When it ran a little better when I first got it it would hit 10psi then go down to 8 or so in the upper rpms.

finally got around to working on her. Recirculated the BOV, cleaned the MAF connectors, changed the plugs and wires.
wnet to start her after letting her sit for about a week and the battery was dead. Got her jumped and running now.
So she seems to run better, started right up, idled fine, a little high, but fine for now. let her warm up a little and went for a drive.
Seems like it still wont rev past 2k so well, just seems to missfire but if i keep on it it will slowly go above 3.5k and then she runs like a raped ape?
Also, the CEL stayed off(due to battery most likely, but never came back on)
im not really sure at this point. Tomarrow i'm gonna do a fuel pressure and volume test. Also taking the battery with me to work so I can change it properly and do a proper load test.

something that I've been thinking about lately. I noticed the injectors get very loud sometimes during idle for a min or so and while that happens she seems to idle a little high, and then the injectors quiet down and the idle goes back to normal. Can this be a problem? I've bever really heard of this before.

Well originally I thought it was rthe maf sensor so I switched it out for a used one I got from a friend that is know to be good yet the same problem still persists. I'll have to probe the new maf and see what I get for readings. Just gotta get my specs from shopkey

Also, I'm not running any kind of boost controller nor is the car hooked to the factory one. Could that cause anyproblem? I've just got the wastegate hooked directly to the j-pipe for now.

And what about the abnormally load injectors? It seems to do it more when the car is cold

*Problem Resolved*

after fixing as many boost leaks as i could find and not having any luck, checking FP, Timing and everything, went for a test drive and the problem came right back once the car warmed up. Popped the hood and unplugged the MAF, BAM, car idled perfect and ran great besides a huge sputtering problem between 2.5k and 4k rpms. Drove her home and consulted a good DSM GURU friend of mine and he suggested the possibility of a loos wire from a SAFC removal by previous owner.

Pulled the side panel and looked at the harness, and low and behold.....
the MASS air wire was unhooked. got her all patched up and she started right up and purred and drove like it was a miracle from God.
Goes to show you....
DO NOT BUY MODDED CARS...LOL...that is unles your ready to fix their hack jobs.
