Drillin/Punching out a Muffler?

I have a twin tip DTM style muffler similar to this:

and I'd like to make a bit louder. Can I use an electric drill and go into through the outlets to drill out a hole or use a crowbar to bash through the muffler plenums? Will this adversely affect my car? Will it sound like crap? Help out a broke as a joke college student.

No way homie! Mufflers are cheap in case I screw it up. I'd rather do something for free though.

Chances are it'll just sound like crap, and annoy the neighbors. And trust me - driving a loud car gets old really fast.

I'd make sure that before you do something you might regret later, you try driving around in a friend's loud car for a day and see if it doesn't annoy the crap out of you. If not, then by all means, go ahead and try it - it's your money.

It prolly wont help much. I had a twin canister muffler on stock exhaust and it only sounded ok at idle but just a little gas and it would scream/hiss. But now i have custom 2.5 on the same muffler and it sounds good, low toned and loud enough to make me happyand be heard.

Shit, if you want loud get yourself an o2 with external dump!! That'll REALLY wake u up in the mornings . You want your exhaust as quiet as possible tho, loud sux and get you exhaust tickets that much quicker..
