Stupid noob question.

I recently purchased a used RS*R? downpipe from XS Engineering and sadly when it got here i noticed that the flex section had a good... 1/2inch to 1inch size rip in the flex section. I realize with a used item there will be dings and such, but i wasn't sure how bad a ripped flex seciton is?

Any thoughts? Do i just take it to a muffler shop and ask them to examine it? Sorry for the stupid quesiton, i just wasn't ready for something like this yet hehe...

Thanks again for all the help everyone.

Yeah you should beable to just cut out the old flex section and weld a new flex peice in. Any local muffler shop should beable to do it for you if you done have access to a welder.

i was told the felx section is just like a cover over the piping? is this true? i would try to peek into the hole but didn't want to damage it furthur...

thanks for the info! now just to find a good shop near seattle! ;)

sorry, just wanted to clarify, so a riped flex section shouldn't have any adverse affects? mostly cosmetic?

A flex section is the "flexible" pipe on a exhaust which allows the motor to flex and not break the welds/nuts/bolts between the exhaust and motor. It does have a use because the fumes do flow through it.

oh weak... that's what i first thought when i saw it, but guy at XS said he thought it was in good shape so he didn't bring it up when i asked if things were ripped or not...
god i hope it's not too expensive. figured a used downpipe for 100 must be in good working condition
