Door lock busted

With my new 1990 Talon Tsi AWD, the left door lock does not work. Apparently someone broke into it and the key now will not turn. I have the inside panel off and I know nothing about door locks.
But isn't there someway to ruin the mechanism (temporarily) if a "slim jim" is slammed down in there? Also, the inside lock won't activate, it just jams up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

This isn't really the kind of repair you can second guess. You need to be there with your eyes and your fingers to figure things out.
You can swap the lock cylinder from the passenger door.

Either that or just take it to a locksmith. The Alignment in there is probably messed up.
