i have a big 16G that was given to me from a friend, its blown so it will obvioulsly need a rebuild, now the real question is...after i rebuild it will it need to be rebalanced? i was under the impression that each part was balanced individually, the copressor wheel is balanced to perfection, and the turbine wheel is also balanced, so when fitted together, the center section is also balanced...is this true or should i just forget the whole thing??
thanks

Anytime you rebuild anything that rotates as an assembly, especially something that operates at such high rpms as turbos, it needs to be balanced. Balancing is done as an assembled unit. The individual parts probably do get balanced individually to a point.

Just to give you a suggestion, I would talk to the guys at www.turbochargers.com. I have been talking to one of them for a while with the problem that I am having with my car and they have been extremely helpful. They will do a basic rebuild for $275.00 and a free inspection of the turbo when they get it. Here is a link, check it out:
