Does anyone else find Carbon fiber hoods a$$ ugly?

I've thought about painting my hood to match the car many times, but its threads and comments like the ones I've just seen that keep my car looking the way it does. :thumb:

Great reference for others to see.

Um, seriously now. Does that article mean anything? No.

First off, the RS is well over 100# lighter realistically. I haven't see the article, but if they actually put all 3 on the scale then I admit I'm wrong. However, it doesn't matter because the RS was making 10hp more then the evo viii, and more hp then the MR even. So the lighter car with MORE HORSEPOWER is faster, big suprise.

Secondly, why not spend a $100 and save 20# on a more efficient optima battery instead if you were that concerned with weight?

It goes back to what Stapl said. It's marketing influence. You don't see cf hoods on Uncle Jimmy's Gran National now do ya? Maybe on Uncle Jimmy's Accord though, right? You don't seen Mclaren F1's running around unpainted.

There is absolutely no justifying $400-500 for 20-30# "weight savings", unless your interior is swiss cheesed like Curt's and that 20# is going to be a huge deal. Hell, how many people are running around with rear bumpers and cf hoods claiming weight savings? There's 30# of FREE weight removal back there!

If you're running a CF hood, admit it, it's because you simply wanted the looks. That's fine. It's your car. I just hate the whole weight savings claim. It's like Chris Rock talking about the stripper myth that's gone through the country that "I'm stripping to pay my way through college", bs. "I bought it because I like the looks.....oh, and it makes me faster." bs.

Personally, I think it's tacky, cliche, and ugly. It definately sticks out like a sore thumb.

From anything other then 5 ft it looks dark grey and you can't see the weave pattern. From a techy aspect I can understand getting geeked about values of CF and seeing it in a personal application, but most people just like the way it looks. Why don't I just get a basket weave hood, it's the new rage. Or flannel pattern even.

I guess I'll never get it. *singing* I think yer turning Japanese, I think yer turning JDM, I really think so...

IMO ;)

They took all the cars to Dan Harman's AWD dyno and reported equal nuymbers that fluctuated ever so slightly. Anyone who's ever dyno'ed a car will tell you its nearly impossible to get the same curve and numbers back to back on the exact same car, much less 3 different ones setup identically.

The RS has an 81 lb weight difference over the evo VII, and a 95 pound difference over the mr. The evo 8 weighs 3263, the evo mr weighs 3277, and the evo rs weighs in at 3182. This gives them the following weight to power ratio: evo 8:11.8, mr:11.9, and rs:11.5

http://motortrend.com/roadtests/sedan/112_0503_mitsubishi_evos_dyno/ They did 3 runs - the "2nd best" run of the RS is stil consistently better then the "2nd best" of the other cars. It WAS making more power. Anyone who's ever looked through a car mag can tell that the same cars will run different times in different tests based on mileage, condition etc. If you want to believe that .4 et and 2.8mph has to do everything with 80# and not driver, car, power, etc, fine. If it was that easy, removing both bumpers and the a/c would be a more valuable mod then an MBC. Believe what you want... The 80# weight difference alone was not the case, the 10hp difference was. Throw that test out the window, it has nothing to do with carbon fiber hoods looks.
