My vaccum is reading wrong so I think I have a boost leak, This is furthered by the fact after warmed up the car idles like crap.

My question is does also wreak havoc on the ECU trying to keep base timing at 5-6 degrees, mine's jumping all over the place from 3-15.

hey, i started my car this morning and my vaccum was at 10 in. Hg. and fluxuated from about 8 to 11. i rev my engine up a couple times and when the rpms are falling back down the vaccum goes to about 15 and when it gets to the idle range goes back to about 10. is that normal? i remember hearing somewhere that 15 to 20 is good vaccum. let me know what you think and if you guys figure anything out. thanks,

Either Crankbender or L24TSIAWD, if you all figured out his problem, please let me know. I'm having almost the exact same issue. Except my vaccum at idle (from my boost gauge) still reads right around -20 hg, which is decent. But, same issues, after the car warms up idle goes to crap, timing jumps around a lot, and the car will actually stall itself out after awhile. So, let me know! Thanks.

I had a similar problem but I don't know if my timing was jumping around at the time. Exactly like yourse (i pull 22-24 in hg at idle) and my car would die and idle like crap. I worked on EVERYTHING in the car for 48 hours (minus 6 for sleep). The final fix was to drain half the tank. Put in a bottle of dry gas and then fill the tank with good gas...problem solved...just had to run the tank all the way to empty. The problem has never come back.

can someone point me in the right direction so i can find how to do the grounding trick i know ive seen it somewhere but i dont remember

There should be a small plug just behind your battery. Mine has a small pinkish prong on the inside of it. It will not be hooked up to anything else. Just use an alligator clip and clip it on the metal prong in the plug next to the pink one, then hook it up to a ground. Thats what I done to mine and it seemed to work.:talon:
