Do you think I need a FPR?

Okay, I have a 97 Gst. Here's the mods I have ready to install..

Evo3 16g
750cc Inj.
Wally 255
Eprom w/ chip for the mods.

Already installed..
Just other basic bolt ons..
Exhaust, intake, fmic, ect.

I'm debating on waiting to put the mods I have waiting, now, or wait till I have a FPR. I've been told by a few that I won't need one, others that I will. I just wanted others opinion. Also if you could explain your opinion as I don't know much about fuel systems.

Every fuel injected engine needs a fuel pressure regulator. Your question, I am assuming, is refering to an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. If you have a 255lph pump, I would recommend the afpr, because the pump will over run your stock regulator at idle and cruise conditions, making it difficult to get a good tune. In other words, the 255 will flow more than the regulator can return at idle, therefore making your pressure higher than what it should be in the fuel rail, causing a rich condition.

Very well explained! Thanks!

There are people that will tell you (including one wiseman on this forum) that you can get away with the stock 2g fpr and a 255 as long as the fpr is in good working condition (a 1g should always have an afpr with a Wally 255). Unless you are extremely tight on cash though, I would just buy the afpr and be done with it just to be safe.

I run a 255 without a fpr on e85. I do not notice any negative effects. But as soon as I get some money I will be buying one just to be on the safe side.

This subject has been beating to death. Try it for your self. I tell everyone that you don't need one and the problem normally lies in the return for the 2g awd since he have a split saddle tank which has a tiny siphon which it uses for return. Since you don't have a saddle tank i don't see a problem in running one with out it.

OP, this question has been :beatentodeath:.

I was in the same dilemma as you, as I just bought a new pump (255) for my new e85 setup, and was tight on money as well. So.... I did my research. Yes it does take time... I must of spend hours reading about it. There's plenty of back and forth information about it but I have to say, I myself decided to buy an AFPR for my setup after all. Not only I want my setup to be perfect but I want to squeze as much gas mileage (MPG), as I can since I'll be running e85.

Here are a few threads for you, I suggest you take the time and read thru them.... specially the first link
