Make sure it's a dampening pulley (OEM, Fluidampr, ATI) and not one of those fancy aluminum pulleys.

Definetly dont get a cheap aluminum pulley ...

We recently rebuilt a DSM because their cheapo crank pulley failed on them...

As said before, OEM is the way to go

other than that, replace the belts since they're coming off as well, if you've got the cash, spend it on seals/gaskets

Damn, I'm glad someone started this thread, ### I've been thinking of doing the same. I get a lot of noise off my pulleys, and have been thinking of replacing them. At first, I was looking at the polished or chrome looking ones (Unorthodox racing pulleys, I think?) but have heard that they can affect your idle. Also, lots of people on this site rave about the Fluidampr pulley.
About the aluminum racing ones, why would they affect the idle? Does the lighter weight make them rotate slower, or faster.... or what? My '95 TSI is a daily driver (right now it is), but once I get my truck going again, I'm gonna fully restore and tune it up...for looks as well as performance. Thanks for any help or advice y'all can pass on.

Solid aluminum pulley (aka Unorthodox Racing) = no harmonic dampening ability.

OEM, Fluidampr, ATI = ability to dampen harmonics


By the way, this has been covered numerous times before. Searching would have provided a bunch of links with the info as to why aluminum pulleys are bad.
